Definatly one is high expectations and pressure, you have little room for error.

One thing i love when i play with single figured players is their game from 100 yards in. They stitch pins to 10 ft and are always going for birdie par. To get really low work on your 100yrd game and in, aka your apporach shot and work on hitting the scoring zone aka 12ft or less.

Also really low handicappers strike the ball in a different way i notice. They tend to very much strike the ball at the back when going for greens, obvious you might say but i rarely see 8,9,10+ doing it. Not only does it generate alot of spin you launch the ball relitivly straight.

I am a 8 handicap and I am confused by your last post concerning the back. Are you talking about hitting the back of the green or are you talking about hitting the back of the ball.

My greatest strenght is my distance off the tee. I average about 260-270 yard drives and that will only leave me with small shots with either wedges or 9 irons. I agree totally that hitting close to the pin on approaces is good but it is not much use when you are attacking the green after slicing shots out of bounds or into the lakes.

70% of the game is from 100 yds in. Think on.

In keeping, imho the biggest prob with Cat.2 golfers is trying to hit the ball too hard/far & thinking that thats the be all and end all...

well im high single, and can see problems that higher handicapers have when playing with them although id never mention them on the course.

ive slashed strokes off a lot of these players games when they ask for a help. ive found the higher the handicap the more likely they are just trying to bring their score down to break some magical number but are working on the wrong part of their game if thats their goal.

lets say for an extreme eg. a guy who shots 40+ and thinks straightening out a 10 yard slice off his drive will change his score, when having a few lucky bounces on the course would change his score more. 10 mins on putting mechanic basics and they drop 10+ strokes consistantly.

the closer the player gets to my handicap the longer it takes to spot a weak scoring department.

maybe ive just ran out of obviously weak departments myself and have to work on everything.

i was just wondering what a realy low singler sees when they play with high singlers, im sure they wonder what els and tiger does differently.

i got a feeling course management, consistancy, concentration are going to be part of it.

I mean striking the back of the ball.

Well I'm currently of 14 as you should all well know now =) But I'm told by lots and i know myself i shud be off roughly 8-9, and I know alot about the game.

I personaly am prety long of the tee, and my iron game is very good. My putting was very shoddy indeed, along with my chipping. But I put immense work into my putting. I am now a very good putter. All that is left is my chipping and my approach.

I find myself always to long for one club and too short for another, so im hitting 3/4 shots etc, which is difficult at 14 H/Capp. But this summer i am just going to work with my new gap wedge and my 100 yrd in and try to plant the ball close by striking the rear of the ball to get backspin.

In my junior section there is guys who drive the ball 300 yards without effort, but in matchplay I always take em with my accurate long irons and my putting.

Short game can save a bad round and make a good one.
I'm a 5 handicapper but I would regard my short game from 100 yds in as very average.
I am an excellent ball striker ,very accurate and long driver ,and hit straight irons.
I find my biggest fault is lack of concentration.
I usually start very poorly, maybe 3 over for the first 4-5 holes and then I am level for the rest of the round.
Warming up before hand and a trip to the practice ground to hit even a few balls is a big help.

how many greens in reg do you hit as 5 handicaper and dm_doc as a 14, theirs a lot of talk here of very accurate irons, i thought mine were accurate enough but maybe my real weakness is GIR

how many greens in reg do you hit as 5 handicaper
    Thats a tricky question.
    It varies per round.
Sometimes you could hit a green and be 40 yds from the pin,or you could just miss by a yd and be 5 yds from the pin.
    Which is better ?
Last week for instance I played 9 holes, hit the ball atrociously ,only hit one green in reg yet was 1 under.
Next day I hit it perfectly ,hit 8/9 but was 2 over.
    Its a weird game.
Generally if I miss a green it wont be by much, maybe 5 yds max.
