I have a grundig box, about 4 years old, ex-subscription with a FTV card. When switching from or to any of the ITV channels, the box crashes.

It seems to only occur on the ITV channels (1,2 & 3). No problems going from BBC to BBC or CH4/CH5. Does this make any sense? Any suggestions as to what I can do? The box doesn't seem to be hot at all, so I doubt it is over heating.

    Bizarre.

This "might" be software? I have not seen the Grundig at home for ages and dont know if the latest update is causing probs too.The folks dont watch ITV.But its also 4 yrs old. Maby I should ring them and ask.
Tony, has anyone else had probs with older Grundigs?
The other thing and believe me it wouldnt suprise me is the power supply, the weirdest problems start and unexplainable ones when the capacitors dry out or leak.
Anyone else with a grundig help here?

I have a similar aged grundig box with a FTV card in it and have not experienced any such problems when changing to the ITV channels. The box is not as quick as my panasonic or Sky+ box but it has never given any trouble.

Me touches wood and crosses fingers.

i hand 2 grudigs and pace at one stage...Pace broke, got a new tuner from satcure.co.uk, all fixed, give it somewone for €120, breaks after about 6months, gave him my silver grudig, and still never got paid for it...

Anyone know how to fix a one of those ports where the ribbon cable pushes into, its the controls on the front or remote control doesn't, Perhaps i can plug a tv link into it and see what happens,

I'm krap with a soldering iron you see

I'm going to try a software download - how do I do it?

Is it holding down the power button while plugging the box in?

Hold down the backup button (on the box - not the remote) when plugging in the box. Remove the card first.

First, simply switch your box into standby, and then back on again. This triggers any new software that your box may have downloaded. If that fails: Remove your card. Switch the box off at the mains. Press and hold the backup button down on the box, then switch the mains back on. Wait for about 20 seconds, until you see a message appear on your television (which only appears on a SCART lead). Follow the instructions (ie don't do anything for the next ten minutes). Forcing a software upgrade is not actually required since Sky upgrade all box software automatically. Furthermore both new and old software may be transmitted simultaneously so, if your box hasn't been told to upgrade, you may still receive the old software. Experience shows that many boxes download upgraded software but do not activate it until you switch the box off and on at the mains. When Sky wish to upgrade your box they simply send it a signal to switch off.

    Right, that didn't work.

    So, I have two options.

1: Can I transfer the FTV card to another box? I have a horrible feeling they are married to the box.

2: The in-laws got Sky and have one of those bogey cards that don't display the Irish channels, but do have BBC/UTV/CH4 in "other channels". Question is - when they cancel Sky, will the card still retain UTV/CH4? Might borrow it from them seeing as they don't use it.
