not sure if its the cheapest - but its certainly one of the best gadget shops in New York

Yeah goto J&R, you can't miss it, its a block long near the brooklyn bridge.

If only to browse all the gadgets, that said, I'd imagine it would be cheaper outside NYC, perhaps NJ

Theres an 8% tax on goods, also check out the Apple Store in SoHo(i forget directions)

The seminars are worth going to :)

You'll never find a massive bargain on new ipod, maybe old ones.
Apple price-fix. if you don't obey their rules they won't sell them to you.

Especially as they are so overpriced anyway, so even if you do get 10-20% off they are expensive, you are paying for the huge marketing costs, which is the reason everybody has them. There are far better players out there, better sound quality, longer battery, lower cost.

Maybe he thinks ipods are the only mp3 players that exist, many people still do. He is looking for a bargain, I wouldn't like to see anybody ripped off due to simple ignorance. In fact in saying ipod he could well just mean an mp3 player.
if somebody said they were looking to buy a hoover, and somebody recommended getting a dyson, I bet you wouldnt comment "he wanted a hoover, so shut up".

Cheapest place to get one is still ebay. You could get it delivered to your hotel.

Maybe he just wants to know where to get an ipod in NY

    No more thread spoiling guys,

    I've got a Mini-Ipod / Ipod Shuffle and a hp-140

Ipod shuffle suits me the most from the 3, mini-ipod is funky too, sure there are better mp3 players out there, but iPods are damn nice.

Heres the Apple shop in Soho, when i was there at xmas - http://members.boards.ie/bazh/apple_nyc.jpg
