Jesus, I just knew this was going to turn into a pointless exercise with people listing games for every console in existance

Current gen I believe he meant Xbox, Ps2, cube, pc etc.

    .....lol

All we need now is retrogamer to come and blow all the other lists out of the water.

You should change the thread title to "Best games in the industry to date", thats what everyone else has turned it into!

Although now that someone mentions it, Star WArs on the 32x was actually brilliant.....

One of the few games that made that pathetic add on worthwhile in some form.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Granted Virtua Racing Deluxe is the best console version so far, better than the Megadrive and Saturn editions, but Star Wars 32X? Just had a go of it again yesterday and man that game stinks, only keep the cart for completeist reasons, don't like it at all, the Snes games dance on its grave man. Really though, you thought it was excellent? Dude, dude, dude :(

Thats the one thats a 3d flight sim? Unless I'm thinking of a different game on the 32x, I still think it was a great game for its time, very Star Wars.

    I loved it.

And don't call retro ****, young whipper snapper, why I was twiddling knobs and trackballs before you wrapped your sweaty palms around your first analog stick, Why I Outta!

Best current gen titles that will be remembered in 20 years when the current gen is retro,

    Metroid Prime,
    Resi 4,
    Ico,
    Halo,
    Zelda, the wind waker,
    GTA vice city.

    Driver 3 (only kidding!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

doubt wind waker will be remembered as a great thing. iwata himself admited he rushed it to finish it. which is what he plans on not doin with this one.

and i said retrosh!t cause its current gen games we were talkin aout not 32x games. and i aint no whippersnapper.

Wind waker is a classic tho. I mena, i lent my cube to my gf with a copy of wind waker, and shes not a gamer at all but shes spent severl nights up til 2am playing WW, any game that can make a non gamer sit up and take notice is a good game imo

i got that sega classics collections (ntsc) for ps2, and it has a new version of virtual racing included

very good fun but a little easy and something retro stylish about untextured polygons

i prefered this old game to gran turismo 4 :p

Can't wait to get my hands on that collection, at the risk of bringing up retro **** once again, may get ps2 chipped so I can get it, is it getting an eu rekease?

Its games from the current gen with a certain something that wil never be repeated, thats what makes a true classic, so many games look great on their release but soon sink below the dozens of similar and often better titles, games like Halo will be remembered as being one of the best possible solutions to the FPS genre, as was Goldeneye before it.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,400 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I think it will be released, they had an article about it in Games TM this month.

The retro collection I'm most looking forward to are both megaman anniversary collections. Unfotunately I think my order from play-asia is lost in postland. I hope they have a better return policy than dvdboxoffice's wait 60 days before we send another out.

Back on topic, here is my GBA list:

    Metroid fusion and zero mission
    Fire Emblem
    Advance Wars 1+2
    Zelda Minish Cap
    Castlevania Aria of sorrow
    F-zero
    Mario Kart

Probably on my own here, but Thief: Deadly Shadows on the Xbox is probably my game of the generation. It's the whole atmosphere throughout the game that really makes you feel like you're a master thief sneaking through filthy medieval streets, skulking from shadow to shadow. I hadn't played a Thief game before that (since did on the PC, but wasn't that impressed) and I usually hate the likes of Splinter Cell, but something about this just caught my imagination. Couple that with a great story and some of the best graphics ever seen on a console and it's my favourite game of the last five or six years.

Honourable mentions go to ICO, Star Ocean III, Resident Evil 4, Morrowind and Halo 2 (online).

Ah how I loved my 32X... It broke 3 times so never really got the play it as much as I wanted. Kept being sent off and eventually replaced. Thank god my dad knew someone who worked for Sega's main Irish supplier back then!!
