Placebo are on the eve of returning to the studio to start recording their 5th
studio album. The new album due for release in 2006 is being produced by Dimitri
Tikavoi, who has previously worked with Placebo on tracks such as 'The Ballad of
Melody Nelson and 'Running Up That Hill'.

in the coming weeks for news of some special studio updates.

Brian Molko's hair was a disgrace in that email

He doesn't still have that mullet does he?

I'm not sure about this. Their first two albums were damn good but I don't like the direction they took after that (Rap? WTF?). A couple of tracks from SWP were okay, but it's like they were replaced by some kind of alternate reality Placebo (which would explain the mullet) straight after "Without You I'm Nothing" came out

The rap wouldn't be Spite and Malice would it? Is it ectually Placebo rapping on tha ttrack? I thought they just got a gues to do it...

The hair was rather weird to say the least.

No real details given on the album. I liked Sleeping With Ghosts though. Hopefully they keep up the standard.

Bad hair or not hes still sexy as hell, however a lil less of the mullet would be nice...

I got all excited when i saw the post...and then read 2006....boooooooooooooo :( Black Market music still has to be the one for me...however nothing beats their cover of "Johnny and Mary", LEGend.

Hmm..I have a bad feeling that this is going to be their "experimental" album. In other words, utter ****e.

I don't think they'll manage to top Without You I'm Nothing in any case.

It wasn't any of the band.
I can't remember his name , but he was a guest singer all right! Anyway, it was only one song! The rest of the album was still really good!

If Dimitri Tikavoi is producing it, then it should be really good! The Ballad Of Melody Nelson (Serge Gainsborough), and Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush), were really well made songs, possibly the best covers Placebo have ever done!

You're right about Without You I'm Nothing though.
I doubt that they'll ever make anything to top that album.

I hope the new album is all in French just to piss off the English audience. Plus I really like the French versions of their songs.

couldn't agree more - plus de francais, s'il vous plait!

Have they ever played down south? I remeber them playing Belfast in 1999.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Yeah, they've played a fair few times here.

The rapper's name was Justin Warfield.

I think the lads are still doing fine work. You can't top Without You I'm Nothing and I'm glad they're not trying to. They're still making cool songs. Looking forward to see if and how they jump with the new album.

    Long wait though.

Na brians mullet is gone, hes completley shaved his head now, but i thought the mullet was legandary. I think he nearly always has a really good hairstyle.

Personally i thought BMM was the best album, then WYIM, then SWG and then placebo.
This Picture, Bitter End, Centrefolds, Protect me and Special needs are all really good songs though from Sleeping with Ghosts.

I was really, really pissed off at them for not playing here on the SWG tour. I mean, they played Lebanon. ****ing Lebanon. Yet they didn't bother their arses coming over here. Bastards. If I ever see Brian Molko, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind and tell him what a **** he is.

Ye but its so expensive for bands to come over here but i suppose thats no excuse its not about the money.
Sure if you wanted to see them that much all you had to do was fly to england, i did with ryanair 35euro return and the ticket price was only 15euros. So it was grand, went to liverpool and then their farewell gig at Wembley (ment to be their last gig till 2006 but now there playin South America!)

    *is incredibly jealous*

I've never actually seen them live, to compound the bitterness.

Why is it expensive for bands to play here btw?

According to their website at the time, they were going to be playing here, but weren't aloud due to some healt codes!
The Itish date, would have been a couple of days after a gig in China for some reason, and it seems you are not allowed to do that!
i don't know, it confussed me at the time!!!!!

What the hell are Healt codes?

And thats a load of crap because they should of played here straight after the English dates just like they did in 2000.

Just to make you jealous Pet, ive seen them at the Olympia 3 times, Slane, SFX, Witnness, Liverpool and Wembley. Defintly the best live band you will ever see, but only at smaller venues as i dont think they can pull off the really big shows such as Wembley which was brilliant but nothing compared to the SFX and OLympia back in 2000.

It was apparently because of the foot and mouth disease being around at the time(that would be the reason they couldnt play here after china) In my opinion its more like a lame excuse.

Have to ferry the gear over for one gig and ferry it back. European tours are much cheaper because you can bus it everywhere. And bands that play England either play mulitple dates around the UK or can draw a big enough crowd to make it worthwhile. In London alone a very minor band could probably fill a bigger venue then they could here.

Not even Irish bands are safe from the curse.

I remember a while back at a Muse/JJ72 gig the JJs had no stuff because there was an Aer Lingus strike or something. So Mark did his thing by himself with Matt Bellamy's guitar. He broke a string on the first song.

Later, JJ72's bad luck continued and in 2005 they released a single that sucked, despite writing many better, cooler songs in the meantime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭sillisome fiend

how has this got anything to do with JJ72's new material? although I do agree they have written better songs,I still love them.

The reason Placebo weren't allowed play here after China was SARS. SARS was spreading around China and so Placebo were thought to be a health risk. BBM and SWG were the best Albums imho.

It doesn't really have anything to do with it. I was just forcing a link because I'm a bitter old fan :). Unfortunately, I think I still love them too. However badly they may choose to suck in the future.
