I might see if I can get money together for that.

OT: They've increased the price of the 2405 by almost €400.

Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW 20" widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor

This is a joke of a monitor - LCD Bleeding and Dead pixals everywhere, not worth the money at all. I have exchanged my one 4 times, with A LOT of hassle from Dell tech support and customer care. I finally decided to spend that bit extra for the 24".

The LCD panel in the 20" is made by LG, which is very poor quality. The LCD in panel in the 24" is manufactured by Samsung which is flawless.

Advise you to stay clear of the 20" !!!

    Bad luck.

I've had no problems with mine. No dead pixels, no quality issues.

Yep, had a 2005 with no dead pixels & negligable backlight bleeding. Basically perfect.

    Have a 2405 now..........even better :D

I'm interested in a 2005FPW, those of you who have it, can you help and answer some questions.

The recent Anandtech review of this monitor mentioned that you can plug S-Video into it, does this mean you could plug the S-Video from a NTL digital box into it or also a Gamecube and play them on it?

If ys to the above, Anadtech also mentions that you can have the input from the DVI in one half of the screen and the S-Video in the other half?

Does it have to be half, can it be 25% / 75% split?

Finally how is this screen for gaming?

    Thanks for all your help.

I can't be certain on the S-Video/NTL query, because I've never seen an NTL box, but assuming it uses a standard S-Video connector, you should be fine.

The dual source display works well. You can do a 50/50 side-by-side split or a picture-in-picture set-up that you can shift from corner to corner, and allows a couple of different size pip regions.

I don't really play games, so can't help on that front.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

How easy is it to move the picture-in-picture from corner to corner. Is it a quick button press or is it a more setting thing. What I mean is, it it quick and easy to get the pip out of the way when you need to?

I just found the Dell manual and it has answered most of my questions.

The only question left is gaming.

    Thanks

recommended to stay away from this, buyers read through the long but good thread on [H] about this here
btw KeyserSoze, not everything lg makes is crap (e.g. 2y old 1800fp which was fantastic for its time) nor everything samsung makes is gold :D

There seems to be a second rev of these monitors that have non of the problems described elsewhere.

How does that monitor compare with the LCD TV that Dell do:

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&id=lcd_w1900&l=en&s=dhs#tabtop

    Currently selling for 693 euros.

Seems to me that the main difference is the TV tuner and HDTV capabilities of the LCD TV, compared with much higher resolution of the monitor, better response rate, but lower brightness.

Which one would be best for a mix of computer use and XBox use, given that my XBox can use SVideo?

    Ciarán.

Well I don't know about the W1900, I do know that many people use the 2005FPW for gaming with Xbox, see here for details (just search for 2005FPW and Xbox) :

    http://www.widescreengamingforum.com

I don't see any posts about the W1900 on this site. One of the most important things when gaming is response time. The W1900 is 25ms while the 2005FPW is a much better 16ms.

Thanks for the link. The 25ms response rate of the 1900W does put me off a little bit, I have to admit.
