could anyone please help me, my comp will not boot past the windows loading screen with the little moving icon keeps going, normally takes about 10/15 seconds to move to the next screen but it just stays there.

firstly it wouldnt boot into safe mode, ran diagnostics and the comp passed.

i unplugged all the usb connectors and tried to boot into safe mode that worked but when i shut it down and tried to boot up normally the same problem comes back.

ive tried this a few times and now on the loading screen the little moving icon freezes, i left the computer alone for nearly an hour thinking it might eventually boot but no joy.

    any help is greatly appreciated

    Is it overclocked?
It sounds like you installed something that is stopping windows booting, but then again it should start in safe mode if thats the case.

I've had that (or a similar) prob in the past. How old is the installation? I find that windows needs to be reinstalled about once a year or so, otherwise it just gets so bloody cluttered up it's not funny. Could be any of a dozen things - I never did get to the bottom of mine - just gave up and reinstalled. Recommend using knoppix or something like that to boot the machine and rescue data to a dvd. Sorry I can't be of more help but if you can't boot you can't really solve the problems :(

cheers for the advice guys, nah it aint overclocked, i only reinstalled windows after christmas i tried booting the windows xp disc from the startup menu but that frooze too, theres nothing really on the hard drive apart from the os and a few programs thats why i wasnt too bothered reinstalling windows its just a pain to do so.

one of the techs in my college suggested turning off each one of the services that isnt needed one at a time so i might try that when i get home.

Sounds to me you found your problem already. It could be a device driver for one of your usb devices that is either missing or has become corrupted.Try booting back in to safe mode and uninstall your device and then reinstall in normal mode.

    Windows corruption?
It can happen if you pull the power right before the windows boots or shuts down

Why dont you boot in safe mode and then use system restore to see will an earlier restore point work.
