    Advice please..
Trying to copy MPEG Audio files onto my mp3 player but player only recognizes mp3, wav amd wma files. I use CDex for ripping mp3 files but it doesn't seem to support these MPEG Audio files. I can just play file thru' soundcard and encode via mp3 player on-the-fly via line-in but is there any freeware do this job directly?
Also anything similar for ram files?
    Thanks in advance..

What kind of MPEG audio? Layer II?

Try BeSweet and see how you get on... http://dspguru.doom9.net/

Don't know what to suggest regarding RealAudio... though there is something called Real Alternative (google for it...) that might help?

No idea if they're Layer II or what. They're named as .mpga files
Listed as mp3 files on this webpage.
I'll give that link a bash.. thanks inspector..

Yeah, besweet's what you're looking for. You can get a nice gui frontend for it somewhere too. I'm sure doom9 will point you in the right direction.

Thanks guys, managed to get a GUI (v0.6 by DD & Dg ) and all but haven't figured out how to use it yet.. First look at listing of input files supported by BeSweet doesn't include xxx.mpga files.?
    Advice?

Had a look at that site - they are listed as MP3s - where did you get the mpga suffix from?

Try renaming it to .mp3, .mp2 or .m2a and see if any tools recognize it. Also try the latest beta version of GSpot (http://gspot.headbands.com/) and see what it says?

    I seriously think it's an MP3 though.

    Tried renaming to .mp3 but I just getxxx.mp3.mpga !
Inspector, your right they're listed on site as mp3 but when you click to download they're saved as .mpga format.
Gspot tells me they're MPEG Layer 3 files.
I'll sit down and work my way thru' BeSweet and let u know how I get on....
    Cheers again..

"MP3" is simply an abbreviation of "MPEG-1 Layer 3". In other words, your file would appear an MP3 that for some reason you can't seem to rename.

Assuming you're using a Windows box, try opening an Explorer window, click "Tools"->"Folder Options" in the menus, select the "View" tab, and uncheck the "Hide File Extensions for known file types" checkbox. Click OK, refresh the window, and try renaming the file again?

[edit]I tried starting a download of one of these files, and it announced itself as MP3. Maybe there's some MIME type confusion going on?[/edit]
