I have 2x36gb Raptors in RAID 0 and since saturday sometimes on restart one of the drives is declared "missing" and the RAID array is "failed" but then after a few restarts, the drive becomes normal and I can reattach to the array and everything is the finest.

Anyone any ideas on what else could be wrong?

Start backing up your data sharpish like!....
    Then....and only then:
    - Flash bios on mobo/raid card to latest level
    - Look for manafacturers software to test the array / drives

    What mobo/raid board you using?
    Jab

Its a Abit IC7-G and im using the onboard raid controller. I dont have anything of real important on the raid, it has the OS and programs, thats all.

I reckon its a faulty spindle bearing because the problems only seem to crop up when the PC is running a couple of hours. I cant use SMART or check the temps on the array. I play video files from the array and the A/V skips every few seconds, i restart and i hit the problems.

I'll have a look at the latest bios for the mobo and raid drivers.

    Hey,

I think my raid is failing too. I've 2 seagate 200gb drives on raid 1. My controller (sil3112) is saying that the primary drive is dropped. The computer is working fine. This happened a few days ago. The dropped drive is still detected and my raid configuration utility can still read its serial number.

So i'm not really sure if the drive is still working.

I was thinking of deleting the array, shutting down, disconnecting the dropped drive and plugging the other in as primary, letting it boot so it can recognise it as primary. Turn off the PC and plug in the other as secondary, hope it works and then do a disk copy.
I guess I could just unplug the secondary that I know works and see what happens...

Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

It seems too soon for anything to go wrong. I've only had the PC since september.

    Thanks

    W.
