What's the world coming to, eh? From here:

A popular ringtone track is set to scoop the top spot in the UK singles chart, on course to beat Coldplay's comeback to number one on Sunday.
The Crazy Frog's Axel F is currently outselling the Brit-winning band's new single Speed of Sound, according to early retail reports.
HMV said the Crazy Frog was now almost certain to top the new chart.

    Seriously, who buys this sh*t?

    Why? Why? Why? Why?

I feel the urge to kill everytime that ad comes on and I dont get how someone could pay for that ringtone let alone buy a CD! Id love to see what type of loser would buy this.

There is no accounting for taste. All ringtones are a rip off. If you want to listen to music, buy a radio. Your ringtone is to alert you to an incoming call to make you answer it, not something to be listened to. If you do, you'll miss all your calls!

It's a ****ing disgrace. Everytime I here that ringtone on the bs or in town I want to kill the person whos phone it is coming from. Someday soon i'm going to snap and when I do I won't be held accountable for my actions.

It's another indication that there are far too many proles in the world.

Advertising? I worry for the next generation, if this utter crap becomes part of mainstream culture advertising would be the least of my worries!

The sheer injustice of it possibly beating Coldplay to No1...
I'm no Coldplay fan, but that is insulting.

So how soon before we see the Crazy Frog album Remixes and B-sides go on general release....sure to be the smash hit of the summer! >_<

Top 40 and mainstream charts are just a joke no attention should be paid to them.Nothing but excrement like Eminem,Girls Aloud and RnB.

Okay, let me get this straight. Was the Crazy Frog/Axel F ringtone actually released as a CD single then? I presume it must have been in order for it to get (potentially) to No. 1 in the charts, correct? This is the first I heard of it being released as a single.

The thing is, though, I bet you the creators of this "remix" never asked Harold Faltermayer and/or the record/movie company who hold the rights to the 'Axel F' theme tune permission to use it in a remix in the first place. Oh how I would laugh if this was the case and the creators of this monstrosity (Jamster or whoever it was) were found out and sued for every ill-gotten, ripped-off penny they had and were forced out of business as a result. At least then we might see the end of that annoying little bastard! :D

Err the problem I have with this other than being bloody irritating is that the song is destroying what has to be the best movie soundtrack of the 80s and the frogs noises are actually spurred from some comedy thing on the internet not so long ago. Its a shambels a waste of money and a scam, and makes a good song meaningless.

As delicious as that would be, I'd imagine they crossed their Is and dotted their Ts on something like this.

I rememebr seeing the mp3 on a torretn site last week...thought it was just the ringtone. Thinking of getting some on-hold muzak and making a .torrent out of it, then renaming it crazy.frog.axel.f.mp3 and upload it to as many trackers as I can find, just in pure badness...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Aren't ringtones generally supposed to be interpretations of chart hits? Not the other way around?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

    .

In all fairness, even though it is annoying as hell, more work went in to that than that poxy Coldplay song..

I laughed when I heard the two would be competing for the top spot... but I'm in hysterics thinking it's going to pip Coldplay to No. 1 (Let say I'm not a Chris Martin fan).
On another point, it's going to knock Oasis of the top spot.

I cant wait for interview from both!!

The singles charts doesn't really define how popular a song is. It defines how many idiots payed a fiver for one song.
The charts should be based on radio requests and downloads too (not just legal)

The reason its topping the charts is that 2 weeks ago they changed how they compile the charts in england. The reason is that the cd single is dead. Elvis was the top selling single last year in the uk, coming in at a whopping 53,000 compare this to Frankies Relax which sold 2million and you see the decline. This is due to the internet, why buy a cd when you can download the track?

So with this in mind they started to track downloads as well and let them account for sales to reflect the charts more accurately. The problem is that ringtones now in real tone account for a downloaded song as well. Every 10-16 year old downloads about 60billion ring tones a week for their phone so its again messing up the charts. I think they will have to look at this again and discount ring tones other wise the top 10 will be nothing but ring tones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

They included Ringtones as singles sales?
Thats crazy. Noone has a ringtone they'd like to listen to for any length of time, unlike buying a song.
