I don't really have much time off for the summer, but i'm thinking about heading away for a bit to do some research in the soltitude of Achill Island.

Has anyone got any interesting plans for the summer?

No.. had interesting plans. But they all went to the gutter. Another reason I'd like another shot at this year.

Prob end up working in the local video shop again. Go camping a few times, and go to canada for a week in august to see my cousin's wedding.

    sleep

then, earn some money and hopefully squeeze a holiday in there somewhere - i haven't been anywhere 'away, away' for a long time. last summer my 'holiday' was a weekend in monaghan for a wedding.

I'm working in the zoology department for the summer and I'll be going to France for three weeks at the end of June. Also going to Berlin at the end of September. Possibly squeeze in some gigs by my band during the summer too. Watch my sig for details.

I had something written out, but I'll throw it up later cos the person who's sitting beside me is emitting an odour which is possibly the worst thing I've ever smelt. And yes, it's just him that smells. Jebus, I've to get out of here.

Right, I finish on the 9th, and will be opening a bottle of ouzo when I finish. I still have to go away sometime in between the 13th and July. I'll be giving my mate's sister maths grinds all the weekend of the 10/11/12th of June, then wandering away for a few days maybe. Some SU stuff later on that week, then that'll bring me up to the weekend of the 18th or so? That week I'm going somewhere....might just put a pin somewhere random and go. Then I'm back to annoy the EduCat for a week or two.

Have to go to Moby and REM in the meantime too. So to answer your question, no, nothing really interesting.

That's the second time I've been left out of something on these boards in a couple of days. It's starting to remind me of primary school :D

Yeah I'm working in CTYI aswell, except it's going to be with the younger kids who I'll be co-ordinating to do my every bidding

Do the Munchkin RAs/TAs have much time to spend with the Biggun RA/TAs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

...can we cross them with some sort of elephant?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

Not really. The TA's for the young kids are in class at the same time as the older TA's, and they have to supervise some of the kids at lunch so there's no time to spend with them during the day. There's a couple of hours before the older TA's go into evening study, but a lot of the younger TA's just go home before then cos it's so tiring

Are they that biddable to start with? Any CTYI alumnus i've ever met has been pretty strong minded, and a little odd (in an interesting way). I've heard tales from friends of mine who've worked there, they think the kids are behaving themselves, turn around for a second, turn back to face complete chaos.

*narrows eyes* i am not a little odd.

I dunno about everyoen else, but I was pretty quiet when I started out... Though yes now I am strong minded and willed and all that good stuff, back then if an RA said jump, I'd ask how high!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

I..am going to a couple of gigs (Billy Corgan, Oxegen, Electric Picnic..uhm, some others), hopefully working, playing some gigs in town with the band (I shall also put notices in my signature, and I expect you all to be there. If you don't show up, I'll hunt you down and set my hairballs on you).

Aside from that, I'm spending 3 weeks on the Dingle peninsula in a house with some friends and lots of musical instruments and a boat, and going to Edinburgh in August for concerts and street theatre.

    That's about it..

Hrm well Im going to florida a couple of weeks after the exams for 2 weeks. May also be going to edinburgh and/or amsterdam in september. Other than that I have to find myself a job. May end up working in the solicitors I worked in last summer, but havent decided yet....its boring but pays pretty well and tbh im too lazy to find anything else  But there's gigs to keep me going: oxegen, pixies, etc. oh and Ive just been informed im going to billy corgan aswell....So all in all quite a bit to keep me occupied over the summer

Can't wait for Weezer in Vicar Street on the 7th June. It's the only gig that I want to see this summer. I'll be working in CTYI for July (sorry Ape), possibly working somewhere else for August and then going far far away in early September. Well, Italy or Morocco. Not that far away really.

Heheh, just found out i'll also be TA'ing for session two theoretical physics apparently - I DONT KNOW TP!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

I had the same thing a couple of years ago. I was RA for Session 1 and then TA for Economics for Session 2. It turned out grand - I was straight with the kids when I wasn't able to explain something to them in evening study, but 9/10 it was grand. (And this was when I was studying French and Sociology!) What are you studying yourself?
