Does any of you heads know what has happened to UCDSU.net and its infinitely superior message boards?

You are not authorised to view this page
Thats interesting - not the standard "Page not found" you'd expect if the site is down. I wouldn't worry about, it'll prob be back up later.

I'm not that worried, haven't whipped out the auld paper bag to hyper-ventilate just yet. I know the guys who administer the site, so I'll send 'em an e-mail to find out what the situation is.....

    its infinitely superior message boards?
LOL funny stuff. Very good sense of humour.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 VenusInFurs

I didn't consider it to be that hilarious actually. But as a regular reader of and contributor to the UCDSU.net message boards, I believe the level of discussion to be higher and the humour sharper than on here. There were a couple of cretins on the UCDSU.net message boards, but I think they all ****ed off over here after they fell victim to our wit because they're hyper-sensitive people. I don't read too much of the stuff here, but what I have read hasn't been noteworthy. I've substantiated why I think the UCDSU.net boards to be "infinitely superior", so tell me why you found that to be so bloody comical???

Jesus man, lay off the caffeine you hack! Who cares how good the SU ar5elicking boards are, the poster above you was only making a joke as you pompously labelled the ucdsu boards 'infinitely' better.

    Off topic...

VenusInFurs - Cool nick. I never really got into the Velvet Underground's other stuff.

Ya see funktastic, this is exactly what I'm talking. 'New Man' types crying into their pillows, because when the tribes collide and somebody ridicules your board, you become all defensive. You then try and insult me by calling me a "hack" (that's a pretty poor retort sunshine btw), but you're so good at missing the point you should be a knife throwers assistant! boom tschhh

Anyway, I'm not pompous. Mine is just the view of a man who doesn't give a damn anymore about what anyone else thinks because I know I'm right :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 VenusInFurs

Cheers Kasintahan, its a pretty cool song with a great title to boot. Its also the name of a novel by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch about his sordid masochist fantasies :D

There was a big Velvet Underground revival a few years ago when you could get their stuff on the cheap. I don't know if that's still the case because I think it was only because they were re-issuing their stuff. I'm more into my beats these days man, but they're still probably only the pre-Kraftwerk band I like.

VenusinFurs - continue trolling and your ass will be banned. You've substantiated Fúck all TBH. And stop trying to get a rise out of people.

    Hmmm...UCDSU.net down....has Carroll's reign of terror begun early? :p

    Apparently he's not a fan...I wonder why.

UDCSU.net is rubbish. I used to contribute to it until I realised that the level of discussion was way below what was on Boards and that the colour scheme was likely to make my retinas fall off in the long run. The only decent people are those on the BJJ forum. They're sound and they actually contribute to it often.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

UCDSU.net is absolute rubbish. Venus in furs just admit that this place has a better community that the UCDSU boards. Alot of people who post on that have their heads shoved up their holes and have absolutely zero personality apart from this really funny, intellectually stimulating person and just fantastic person called Bill Bones!

What annoys me is how should you choose to contribute, you're labelled as "Right-Wing" if you have a difference in opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

It lacks me and therefore is crap.

dont think anyone really gives a F(UK about the UCDSU boards they are pure Sh1te only people that post on them are dan hayden and shane henley and other SU knobs from other colleges

I'm a little annoyed at the fact that UCDSU.net is hosted on indymedia.ie
    It really doesnt belong there.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

I have visited UCDSU.net's boards a good few times, and all I can say is that they are pure and utter crap. A while ago some guy who was a union hack appeared on here and began parroting the usual diatribe that seems to emanate from that building. How can we be so unwitty considering a ucd boards beers managed to last all day when it got going... what a twat

    Hosted? What do you mean?

It uses open source publishing software, which is free and didn't cost UCD students anything to set up...as far as I know. Indymedia uses the same software, but so do a lot of sites.

    Am I missing something else?

Indymedia.ie and ucdsu.net both happen to be hosted by:

    pair Networks
    2403 Sidney St
    Suite 510
    Pittsburgh PA 15232
    US

It could be because they're both run by the same people or the fact that Pair is a good and reliable host, who knows?

It's especially ironic for indymedia to be hosted in the evil U.S. and not bother supporting irish jobs at home.

There's no connection between Indymedia and UCDSU.net, other than the fact that they both use Oscailt (which is an open source CMS) and are hosted on the same server. The guys in this year's SU would be probably regular visitors to Indymedia judging from the views they express on stuff.

I think the student union is looking great for next year-thers a diverse mix of views and opinions-what with all the labours and james carroll.I think Dan is going to do a great job with welfare-its great to see someone whose so passionate about their cause being involved in the union+welfare is the most important position anyway!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 852 ✭✭✭m1ke

The UCDSU boards are crap. Full of SU BS and tedius politics 101 discussions that lack any substance and absolutely no element of interaction like here. When the site goes up again, the SU should try to broaden it's appeal. The fact that this board(a peripheral subsection of a website) is more popular than the official UCD boards is evidence that they've got it wrong.

OP if your an example of the UCDSU's average user, I hope to god their forums dont go down too often lest we be burdened with more of your ilk.

Lets not turn this into a flame riddled "x board is better then y board" type thread.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

But let's face it. Scully appeared here ranting about something or other, then because he gets a bollocking from everybody here he brings along his heavies who just fill the place with crap. I then went over to ucdsu.net to raise my concerns about this, and i got told by scully that he wouldn't listen to people on boards.ie - but at least this board has real students with real opinions, real problems and real solutions. Get the facts, the ucdsu.net is a den of self patting-on-the-back, a refuge for the hacks when the forum is closed. It is not as factually representative as here.... and seemingly is a lot less fun considering the good time our 'visitors' are having...

    so

a well deserved pat on the back and group hug!!!!! :D

Good luck to it, its a load of ****e. I was lucky enough to stumble onto this board, its much better. And as someone pointed out, trying to talk to the nutters on that site and, wait for it, having a different opinion (!), immediately results in myself being labelled a right-winger. I'm not right-wing, I just don't have my head right-winged up my ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

Was never really bothered with politics, so I tend to just steer well clear of it. I prefer this board, cos ppl help each other out and manage to chat without getting into fights and all. Plus they go drinking with me :D That said Fergul Scully did give me a chubba chups lollipop before one of my exams...it was great, I just wondered around the hall eating my lollipop and watching people get stressed out!

    Did you support James Carroll?

No i was very much for joanne winning.I agree james carroll has his own agenda and wont neccesarily be working for the good of the students but is just doing it to score as many blondie D4 com girls that he can!But then you shouldnt judge a book by its cover and maybe he'l do a great job. If liverpool can pull of that comeback then whats stopping james from doing the same

Difference is that Liverpool wanted it. James on the other hand couldn't give a f**k - He's won and that's all that matters to him. Now for a year of James doing sweet FA in a sabbatical position (whoa... Deja vu)...

Someone I know in UCD wanted me to vote for James. I intended on doing just that but I got so p*ssed off with those muppets in the halls coming up to me all the time asking me to vote for so and so that I decided not to vote. :D

I would tend to agree with you that I feel he is using his newly gained position as head of the SU as a stepping stone to becoming the future Fianna Fail (get it... Fail...... my gags are so rubbish aren't they?) leader BUT I'm all for giving the lad a chance but he has alot of work ahead of him if he is to get the union in touch with the students which is going to be a extremely difficult task due ot the ridiculous right/left divide in the union.

    Lies
Short and to the point. Can either of you prove it Fergalscully and Red Alert?

Back on topic is it true that the Su hasn't paid the bill and hence the website is down? That's what I heard today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 Fergalscully

It is true the bill wasn't paid but this is because they sent the invoice to Hugh Brady instead of me. A cheque was sent last week and we're just waiting for it to clear.

As for proving anything it is the accuser who must prove it not the accussed. Any way the idea of me getting aload of heavies to come onto this board is just laughable. :p

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

I couldn't really be bothered to turn this into a major debate. The fact is that all the SU people were asked to leave boards.ie. I never remember anybody being asked to leave before.

I stand corrected on matters of fact if I'm wrong and I'm happy to apologise/clarify anything that Fergal Scully, the SU or anybody else have to say.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 Fergalscully

Red alert I don't really have time for a debate either, I do a quick scan of titles to threads the odd time to see if anything I'm interested comes up. I rarely if ever post on this site the only time I ever post here is if I have some info for people such as the res notice or if someone like you makes a comment about me that is false.

So here for your benefit red alert is a statement of facts

I was never asked to leave this board. I never told anyone I wouldn't listen to them, anyone can e-mail or phone me anytime they want and I certainly didn't ask anyone to post on this board on my behalf or on behalf of the union.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

Yes that's correct, you were allowed stay - and speak freely both as yourself and on behalf of the union. Some others who it was believed were union officers were asked to leave.

I think the context where the two boards got compared was when somebody alluded to the fact that we would be listened to by the SU more on the ucdsu.net boards. Some people do post there too, some don't. I have posted there a number of times under my RA alias and as my real name. I am personally more 'attached' to boards.ie, but that's not to say that the ucdsu.net ones are bad. There are in fact too many of them to quickly scan - a technological rather than ideological issue. If i misrepresented those facts earlier on, then so be it, my mistake.

And on a lighter note... imagine if hugh brady hadn't looked at the invoice too well, and just paid it - now that would be quite ironic ;)

LOL... That would be embarrassing for all concerned - except for the ordinary-joe students, we'd be laughing!!!

Why are union officers not allowed on this board?

Because the disgraceful behaviour of certain individuals in the SU pissed off one of the ppl who runs these boards. They were treating this forum like a fecking USI conference with their bull****. You're the only one allowed to remain to defend the SU infront of the ordinary students who post here - who have a very low opinion of the union after that stunt. This isn't hackland.

Folks I have to stay this is all news to me, what stunt are yis talkin about? And whats to stop someone loggin on under a different name anyway?
