Kick off delayed 15 mins, security reasons

    and the Lions anthem is:

"From the four corners of our lands,

    "Were united, hand in hand,

    "Together,

    "Were stronger,

"We join and proud we stand.

"Now the day has come, we are one,

"Standing tall for our Lions call,

    "We're stronger,

    "Together,

"We are the power of four."

Wilkonson is terrible - i mean he has made nothing but bad kicks
Gareth Cooper looks so outta his depth it isnt funny and there is absolutely no support plat at all. Lions play like that in NZ and they wil have a a field day with them. Fair dews Argentin, fighting for everything, well impressed.

Also heard they really want to make it the 7 nations and they would have a base in Europe somewhere for 7 months.

    Nukem

another penalty to lions, wilko scored.

6,7,8,9 for lions are appalling. owen is a terrible captain. 3 of wilko's penalties were less than 10 metres from the line and they should have tipped and ran. more points on the board that way

another penalty to argentina, 19-22 to the puma's.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

great penalty for argentina, from very far out

    25-19

chris cussiter has replaced cooper. hopefully he'll do better. cooper wasn't getting to the ball at all.

horgan replaces smith, darcy and horgan in the centre. hopefully their experience together will stand to something

I only saw the first half, but Wilkinson only made one kick to touch. The Puma outhalf was fantastic - 100% from all over the pitch.

Glad to hear of the Irish trio in the backs, surely their experience will improve the performance. Fair play to Argentina, 26 of their first choice players missing and they are putting up a tremendous fight

80 mins: Referee asks the captains to control their teams. Lions opt to kick to the corner again. The catch and drive once more, then they spin, Williams almost through, D'Arcy penalised at the break down and the Pumas clear their lines. Five minutes of stoppage time to come.

one last kick for wilko to draw the game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

    and he...

    scores

    25-25

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭Nukem

They had no right to draw. Absolutely amazed at the tactics. Using D'arcy on crash ball and bringing wingers in to such a jointed midfield. Standing the out half on the wing? What the hell is Clive Woodward doing? No one chasing and no one supporting.

    Nukem

Trying to get 6 Irish players and a few Welsh out of the Test team ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,958 ✭✭✭✭RuggieBear

darcy has just played himself off the test team....how many penalties and knock ons

Wilkinson was appalling. Thompson lost one against the head. Hayes was ****ed over by argentinian scrum....white did well. Cooper shouldn't board the plane...cusiter was very good

Overall....a very poor match with terrible play from some suppossed NH stars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,004 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Cooper was worse than AIB standered and I don't think we'll see much of him on the tour , Darcy was also very poor . No variation in the kick-off despite everyone of them failing .

On the up side Cuisiter played well , as I would have expected and Murphy was fairly good at full-back .

Agreed. Cooper was shocking. Sometimes took as many as five lateral paces before passing. The Lions took a far too casual approach to rucking... against Argentina?!!

Darcy had a shocking game, but having said that he was used all wrong. And what was with Wilkinson kicking every ball right down the centre of the pitch??

Very questionable tactics employed all round. They had no right to draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭Sundy

tactics for darcy were awful alrite, even when horgan came on darcy stayed at 1st centre. Way too many turnovers, think moody was crap. he was never at the break down and why play 2 number 8's, i think the team really need a mobile 6 on the field 2nite and definatly will against the all blacks and Richie McCaw!
Though hickie and o'callaghan were good but hayes was less than average in the scrum but ok in the lose. I was also disappointed not to see o'gara get a run, would have like to see him ping balls in behind the Pumas back line

oh yeah and go contemponi, how was he left out so much for leinster this season????

That Wilko was good in the second half and in fairness he like D'Arcy have the excuse of not having played much rugby recently, but in general it was terrible. Argentina won by 75 points to 25 on the handicap!!

In the end I would have prefered Argentina to win than the Lions. Also that's the Argentina 2nd/3rd string side, just shows how the SANZAR nations or ourselves have to let them play a yearly international competition with us.

Also did you hear their playing population is 130,000!! Well according to Sky anyway. That's 10 times ours and comparable to England. I'd say we could be going out in the group stages of RWC 2007

Well done to Argentina, spread the ball everywhere and rucked, mauled and scrummed in textbook style.
I was actually shoutin for the puma's too and felt they were robbed (was there really that much injury time?)
I hope the Lions go down and get mangled so that "sir" clive will be shown up for the sham he is. Firstly, Johnny Wilkonson won the world cup, not woodwards so called tactics, also he should be berated for picking so many english players and for his blind faith in an obviously not back to form wilkonson who continued to kick straight into the hands of the back three and also refused to vary the kick off, even though they got it wrong each time. Jones for out half. Give williams one more shot on the wing.
On an Irish note, murphy, o'callaghan and hickie were ok, hayes was killed and byrne was v quiet though he'll stay on cos only he can throw the ball straight. O'Connell and O'Driscoll should make a positive impact.
I dont think o'gara has any place on a tour to NZ, he lacks the ball carrying capacity, i'd rather humphries or even burke, both at least utilize their back line

johnny's kicking was class and his open play, to touch, not so great. very static in defence. got caught out on the wings more times than i could count. and crashing at the centres, what was that about. the pumas would love to see a wirey centre like darcy or henson running at them. we cant play like that in nz, it'll be death...

Thought he had a great game.He was the only player supporting Moddy at every kick off??????????????

At the mo i would put Jones - ROG -Wilko. Jones is all round class and has a bit of everything,ROG doesnt have all the skills but is a good tactician and good passer (would have been a good call to bring him on the other night) Wilko is probably the best out half in the world but too rusty in my view to go on tour. Looked like he was outta practise, player of his calibre should make touch without looking.Com'on how many staright down the middles did he use?

    Nukem

I totally agree re wilkonson, too rusty and constantly kicked to the back three. Ogara's kicking out of hand has also been dire this season, which culminted in him gifting the ball all day long to the welsh back 3 in cardiff. he is a great passer but he never does that, he has a mad preference for kicking away our posession when ireland possesses the best centre in the owrld, class wingers, a dynamite full back and yet he hoofs the ball away all the time.
i retract my statement on byrne...i was lookin at the backs more than anything.
i think humphries should be there instead of rog (i'm not protestant btw!)

I'm not to sure what Wilko was up too with all those "downtown" kicks?
Was that just poor kicking or was it some kind of tactic that never payed off? Eitherway, can't see whoever gets the No.10 jersey trying the same kind of kicks against the New Zealand back three...
