I was thinking of buying one of these and use it as a monitor, couple of questions:-

have these been offered before? Are they any good as a pc monitor? Do they have a DVI connector on them?

    Any advice appreaceated.

    Thanks

    Snake ;)

Its not widescreen. You'd have to consider the value in buying a non widescreen anything these days.

I was thinking of also buying one of these. Although as RicardoSmith points out, its not widescreen.

Just to note, same monitor is GBP250 = ~€360 at the mo in Lidl Northern Ireland. :)

If you read my original post, I'm not to pushed about the widescreen, I want to use it as a screen for my PC, and just want to see if anyone has used one of these.

    Thanks

I think it's af Targe LT2010. you can get the specs at www.targa.co.uk.

It only goes to 800*600. Not a good resolution to be stuck at, on what is effectively a 21inch CRT screen size. But grand if you will be sitting a few feet away (> 5) from the screen

accodring the the LIDL flyer that arrived through the door , the resolution is 800x600 ! ....not suitable for a computer monitor !

suitable for maybe watching movies from your pc or controlling music playlist but nothing else

better off getting a decent 19" lcd from komlett.ie , decent samsung tv one there last time I checked

Things are nearly always cheaper in the North.
One of the reasons besides rip off is higher vat rates and god only knows what other duties.

Aldi at newlands cross had a few 19" LCD computer monitors last week

    Good Boy,
VAT adds an extra 3.5% to the price in the south. Thats about GBP7.50 = ~€10.75. Still €30ish more expensive. Might be worth a trip for someone. :D

I've ruled out getting this LCD now. 800x600 just ain't good enough! (dunno how I missed that).

To Belfast and back for €30? No chance. It would cost that in petrol plus travelling 6 hours into the deal.

OffTopic: DamoRed, obviously depends on where you're driving from. For example, from Dublin I get to Belfast and back on about €15-20 (half a tank) of petrol. Takes me ~4 hours round trip. Granted with all the road works, esp. at Dundalk, it might take a little longer. No need to go all the way to Belfast either (i.e. Newry).

If you buy your booze etc. up there or you live near the border, might be worth it. That is all. :)

Back on topic. Did anyone manage to pick one of these up? Comments?

    Thanks

    Damo

You can go up and back for €10 on the train during the week!

Anyway it's not a huge rip off, higher wages and insurance here and the UK subsidise shipping to NI.

I am getting really sick of people without any economic sense thinking everything is a rip off. (not you damo)

Try looking at actual figures of running a business and supply chains. Gamma has yet to be proven and the amount paid to the company allowed them to make a profit and pay full wages. A bad company doesn't mean anything about the real cost of doing business here.

I hope you are joking about buying oversea otherwise you have simply no understanding of economics.

I understand only to well,..you see I run a business, I'm a professional photographer supplying images to newspapers, magazines & publishers worldwide, I compete with other photographers/company’s from everywhere in the world on a daily basis and if I was to buy my raw materials here I would not be competing on a level playing field,..example : Canon eos 20D digital camera €1800 in Dublin, mine cost
€1237 incl shipping from Germany, the same goes for memory cards, film and so on, our native banks ripped us off for years on the mortgage front until foreign competition "Bank of Scotland" put a red hot poker up there a***,
the same could be said for Lidl, Aldi in the supermarket arena,
anyway we have drifted far away from the "bargain alert" topic so if you wish to have the last say,.. go ahead :)
