Just did a small test on a PC testing for spyware. The results:

    1. On-Line Zonelabs Spyware test - 47 Objects found

    2. Adaware - 121 Objects found

And then number 3 - Microsoft Antispyware - 0 Objects found.

Tests were done in the order No. 3, No. 1 and then No. 2.

they are search for difference items, so i find a combo of them normally works best

    Cremo has it.

I run Spybot, Adaware, MS Antispyware. I also have SpywareBlaster that stops it getting on in the first place.
I have not had Spyware in a long long time.

The main thing is to update it frequently.

If your Getting this much Spyware then you need to Switch Browser Opera/Firefox will do nicely.

As was said already, use a combo, MS antispyware is actualy very decent + Real time protection. ;)

    no, it scans for both.

My typical scan finds 1 tracking cookie. You obviously aren't keeping a watch on what you're installing, or you're using IE. An unusual scan for me would find 3 tracking cookies :p

I'd also like to point out that Adaware can't be trusted anymore. They've signed a deal with "WhenU", and now any spyware from "WhenU" isn't removed by Adaware. There might be more bits of spyware that are Adaware safe that we don't know about.

did you do a clean before the rescans
did you do a quick scan with M$antispyware or the full one

MS Antispyware β is exactly that - beta.

Nonetheless, it has caught 16 spyware pieces on my machine. None recently though.

Thank you all for the feedback.

The PC I ran the scan on was using IE.

MS Antispyware updated everyday or whenever updates available.

Cat'n Midnight - It was the quick scan (I did not give it due justice) and I suppose I should also allow a bit of give and take as it is a beta.

Zoned - I'll download Spywareblaster tonight and see how that goes.e.

I have read a number of threads about Firefox on Boards - about time I downloaded it and had a look.

Thank you all again. Take care.

afaik, ms antispyware is always actively scanning, so a result of 0 isn't much of a surprise really, as it should catch all it catches as it comes in.

Nonetheless, I think everybody knows that in general you need more than one anti spyware software unfortunately. Even more so now that different spyware companies are suing the anti spyware makers, meaning they have to remove detection.

that is utterly sickening, can they do that?

Well, i've never ever heard of it happening... so i don't believe so. I really can't see how they'd have a legal leg to stand on if they did try to sue anti-spyware programs. All the anti-spyware programs do is uninstall the spyware, and i'm sure you're allowed uninstall whatever you want off your computer, in whatever way you choose.

yeah, and i suppose no judge in his right mind wouldn't throw it out straight away anyway

very true, for people who makes spyware to sue Antispyware companies would be like someone who writes viruses suing norton or MacAfee dont make any Since, or Spammers Suing companies who make Spam protection software.
