I suppose I'll be on Redbrick again anyway.... I doubt I'll bother re-joining the swim club since I'm living in Ballsbridge.

    so:
    Redbrick
    Games soc

That's on crap list. I feel fat right now.

    Think i'll be joining:

    Redbrick (Tasty servers ^^)
    Sailing
Karting (Far too many members though so i never get a place  )
    Hiking
    ...
Might try the Canoe club too! Should be good :)

<edit>i'll have to cram gaming and ams in there too, gonna be an expensive year!</edit>

    Redbrick.
    Drama.
    Cummann Gaelach.
Archery. [and actually get involved this year]
Probably Poker Soc. I wanna play, just didn't have the time this year.

Thats about it. I spent too much this year that I didn't take part in.

Yah! ... I'll hopefully be joining up again. Redbrick definately because I don't need to be around DCU to use that. Maybe Gamessoc also - for LANage and so forth.

Not sure what else will be much of a possibility by then. *sighs*

I'd guess martial arts club. And if it's not, the martial arts club will probably kick their arses for stealing their acronym.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Cool. I want to get involved with taht over the summer. Wonder if there is any classes near dcu around that time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 127 ✭✭Zem

Yeah DCUMAC should be good next year, not sure about getting summer training times Jesjes (if you were talking about DCUMAC), i just emailed Niamh Hanely about it but if your interested in it just send me a pm.

i'm currently in contact with a few instructors about teaching next year but untill i have contact back about training times i can't say what exactly we'll be teaching extra from last year but we will be staying true to being a mixed martial arts club that offers something to everybody from all backgrounds, from total beginners-experienced people.(I am in no way advertising the DCUMAC or urging you to join it)

Anyway apart from having to join the DCUMAC again next year i think i'll be joining the canoeing and snowboarding clubs because i kinda stopped going after newyears but they were brilliant before christmas.

New bowling club has got to be good come on it's bowling plus nights out after.

Not sure what else i'll join i think i'll just do it like last year and join things that seem to interest me then and see if i go.

    I'm not actually a woman... I'm a man... actually I'm not really a man... I'm a horse... actually I'm not really a horse... I'm a broom
Dunno why I thought of that...

Anyways... I'll join RedBrick... maybe FilmSoc even though I've been a member for two years and only gone to one movie (Old School \o/)

Also maybe MusicSoc cos I want to get a band together but I'd probably have been better trying to get involved in first year...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Music Soc. is good for equipment/gettin rooms to practise in. Their equipment was fairly bolloxed last time I used it though :|

Redbrick, Filmsoc, Gamesoc, Karting, Poker for starters. Although I never made it to a film this year... I'd expect to attend Pokersoc and Gamesoc a fair bit though and well Redbrick is a given. Karting was my funnest club last year, on those rare occassions I managed to get a place and it wasn't clashing with other stuff! Would really like to make it to more Karting this year.

Also wanted to try something different. It is gonna be my final year! Orienteering or caving or something a bit unusual like that perhaps.

cool seems to be a few joining poker soc. did anyone go to any of their events this year? i'm curious to know what they were like. i don't know if i wanna play a college run poker event. but be cool if they ran them well :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

i'd say poker soc will get all the people who would normally join turf soc, cos they're not in action this year.

Yah i know turf soc were dead this year. Little disappointing. I'm jus very curious to how profesionally poker soc are running their events. be nice if they were running weekly events, would mean i wouldn't have to go into town to feed my addiction :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

i know that they intend to run weekly events. they only set up in the second half of the second semester so ya cant really judge next year on this year.

Thank God the debating society plan on doing something next year - compared to UCD and TCD, they're not doing too well at all!

I think I'll try my hand at some bowling, karting, debating... mmm...

Problem with Debate Soc is that there is only a small interest in debating in DCU so it's quite difficult to get people to regularly go to meeting etc..

The reason that L+H(UCD) and The Hist(TCD) do so well is because those colelges have arts students who seem to be alot more interested in debating

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

yeah, i heard that dcu werent too hot at the debating varsities... somewhere along the lines of last/second last and the debater with the least points was a dcu student.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 939 ✭✭✭Zyox

Too much apathy in DCU for people to be able to summon the energy to debate.

Don't bother with redbrick, I'm in CA, I joined it my 1st 2 years and they did nothing, and I got nothing. Their parties sucked sooo bad.

Join the American Football Club though....

I'm gonna have to listen to the wise words of your sig here and choose not to argue with you.

Landa2, join Redbrick :) Give GamesSoc a lash too, I'm chairing it next year and intend on making it worthwhile this year >_<

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

I'm events officer on the Redbrick committee next year. Feel free to voice your problems with past events. I'll try and take everything into account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

I'll be the sex slave on Redbrick next year so it should be well worth your while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 791 ✭✭✭Akula

Debatesoc fell apart at the end of last year. Never restarted this year until around the end of february, so basically its just a small group now getting ready for next year.

I gather they are planning on holding a lot more public events that aren't competitive akin to the debates the hist(TCD), L&H(UCD), Philosoph(UCC) hold.

Competitively they did one competition this year because of the late start, they didn't do fantastically but bear in mind that it was a group of novices starting at the end of the year when everybody else had been going all year. DCU has done quite well in the past, winning the Irish Times last year.

Next year will be the real test. The debating societies are among the biggest societies in most other colleges, no reason it can't be successful in DCU too.

    Ooh, clever!

I know you are, but what am I?

Fair enough, maybe it's changed, as I wasn't a member this year, but in my 1st 2 years, there was only 2 parties, both in terrible locations, and my logon was messed up, both years!
And both years when I sent emails to try get my logon fixed, they just kept sending me back the user details that didn't work in the first place,
    telling me "enter these instead".

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Well I joined in first year, went to **** loads of parties, my log in worked, and had the best first year ever. Musta just been you. :) Maybe let go of past judgements and give it a lash this year. Ya never know :)

I'm PRO this coming year, thats how much fun I had. College, clubs&socs give back what you put in tbh. Its a metaphor for life folks, not just for college.
