Any drug addiction support groups in Trinity??

Well lads, i came here for an advice,

I am very worried for my best mate, he is in Trinity college. Very recently he confided in me about his addiction... Let's just say he is addicted to something he shouldn't be even considering, a class A drug.

And now with the exams cumin up, he is very very nervous. As you'd expect, his memory isnt up 2 da scratch coz of the stuff he'd been doin... :(

I was lookin around for him 4 da places that can help 2 sort him out...
And maybe it could make it that little bit easier for him if there was a place for people like him in college (which i highly doubt because of the status of the college), and if there is i would like to know if any of yous have any info about something of that nature in Trinity.

Obviously he can't come up to his tutor and ask him, he reckons if the people in college find out, well.... u know yourselves.. :(

So any information on that issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers ladies'n'gentz.

Student conselling service will help people with addiction problems. They will help him if he's willing to go. I hope everything works out.

Actually I just noticed this bit on their site:
Make an appointment with one of our counsellors. During the appointment, you will have the opportunity to speak in confidence about any concerns you have regarding your friend.

Student counselling will probably be a bit hectic at this time of year, but they do their best to see people if it's urgent.

I do hope he gets help - and if he does he could maybe then go to his tutor? A counsellor/doctor can always write an 'person x is seeing me for treatment' pro forma letter without going into any details. College is usually pretty understanding about these kinds of things, and having a tutor on side is handy when sorting out things like extending deadlines and deferring or repeating exams.

probably the following would be best: http://www.addictionireland.ie/profile/default.asp

They have a premises right outside Trinity. All that college could do would be to refer a person onwards to an outside agency. Although, your friend might be able to get fast-tracked into a drug treatment / counselling service if he went through college.

p.s. the Counselling and Health Services are fully confidential (as you would expect). You could also refer your friend to the Student Union Welfare Officer (Luke Ryder welfare@tcdsu.org Tel: 646 8437). He also posts on this board as desertcircus, so you could send him a pm for further info...

Thanks guys, thanks for the information and whats more important - understanding. I appreciate it, cheers.

The thing is that he is most worried about his exams.. I know its a bit pathetic the way he started coppin on only coz of exams... but thats how it is.. unfortunately. I will pass on the list of organisations u kindly supplied me with information for and hopefully he will be able to repeat the exams in the worst case scenario-failure. He's a bright kid n all but it doesnt look good.

And the worst thing that there is no way he can confide in his parents... he reckons they will disown him as they are very likely the most conservative people i had ever met. Thats why i appreciate so much the information u gave me. thanx again.
