I guess that's what happens when you send a god awful song sung by a god awful pair to compete. You get slapped about and told to go home. I'm delighted.

    Norway got through!

    ROCK ON!!

Hate to say "I told you so"...
Not right laughing about it, but that song sucked hugely.
On the other hand I'm glad after listening to all the f***ing BS from the daytime radio shows...at least now I only have to listen to the track for a few weeks when the saddos out there go out and buy it out of patriotic sympathy...

that was a load of ****e, the song wasnt half as bad as some of the muck that got through. i doubt we will ever do well again considering this block voting ****e.

    no surprises really.
The Irish entry was no where near whats required to be big in Eurovision.
I can see a whole question mark being put on RTEs hopeless efforts in getting Eurovision entries over the past couple of years. Some people are going to take this way too seriously.
I honestly feel a bit sorry for the two kids - many people built them up so high, and now their hopes are dashed... and they are almost a laughing stock.
I know Greece is favourite, but Moldova was cool! A granny beating a drum... now thats originality!!
What did we have? A small Riverdance stint in the middle?!?! FFS!!! That's sooooooo 10 years ago!!!!
    Nul point!

I gather the impression that we don't WANT to win the Eurovision.

Which is a perfectly natural thing.

Out of the songs I saw, I have to say that the Irish one was far from the worst and was undoubtedly better than some of the shit that got through. Unless they get rid of this semi-final crap, Ireland will never qualify again. And would that be such a bad thing?

Failing to qualify for the Eurovision is embarrassing... It's nowhere near as embarrassing as winning the thing though

If this whole sorry debacle rids our screens of the horrible "You're a star" for once and for all, then I think we oew those two a debt of gratitude.

Still think the ukraine song is class :o

I want to see her on national TV tomorrow demanding a full written apology for anyone that doubted her. Retractions in newspapers, skywriting, billboards... In fact, I think I'll make a "Linda Martin was right" banner and put it in the back of my car!

Geez, where did all these flamers suddenly come from? I think Donna & Joe were a great act. Sure their song mightn't be everyone's favourite, but you think you'd be slightly patriotic for your own country in a European song contest. The amount of mocking that you're doing is unbelieveable!

Speaking of Linda Martin, did anyone see her on the front of the RTE Guide with her legs spread apart a-la Britney Spears at her sluttiest best. Didn't suit Linda though, she should keep her legs together imho.

imo it was a dreadfull song, if patriotism is what is being called for than we simply should not have entered and save ourselves the embarrasment of not being able to put forward a talented act-imho :(

Leave Marty alone! Marty's cool, well maybe not cool but...leave him alone.

Poor kids. They just didn't have any stage presence and the song was crap. There were also a few eastern european countries that got through who were worse!! And once again, ISRAEL?? Hello, it ain't in Europe!! And I don't care if their in it coz it's something to do with their broadcasting associaton or something? What's the story with that?

There was AT LEAST 10 or 11 acts tonight where the singers sang out of key during the beginning of their songs. In fairness to Donna and Joe, I think they were as good as any other act there tonight and it's a shame they didn't get further. I would also question the telephone voting system. How on earth could all the votes from around Europe be collated and tallied and put into envelopes on stage in 10 minutes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

Jesus, could they have picked two uglier pikies to represent us?

Eh... one would think that the tallying of the votes is done electronically. Thus it should only take seconds. How long does it then take to put a few cards into some envelopes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭Healio

The song wasnt too bad, it was a good act too, but that red-headed little yoke looked like he was lost he was wreckin it for your one.

A great act? hmm... well, not a great performance it seems.
Did you honestly think it could do well?
I knew straight away it was doomed..... I've nothing against the two. They've done their best, but the song and performance wasnt up to scratch.
(I actually thought some of their performances on Your A Star were excellent..... but just not for Eurovision).
I've said it before, but you gotta feel sorry for the two of them, but I feel more anger for everyone that built their hopes up.

Just after checking your location Poz£d...... Athlone!!

Well at least they speak with an Irish accent, not like the majority of teens nowadays who are "soooo, like, whatever, talk to the hand".... They're the ones who don't speak "standard english"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,231 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

remember that band SIX, and when nadine was too young for the band, well rte had some excuse when they went to the previous girl and said she was in, like imagine saying your not who we need in the band and the voice is'nt what were looking for, and then a week later sayin hi we like you so we'll take you. Its all manufactured, mabye thats why we lost.
Now to think of it what happened to six.

Well, considering the fiasco that results in phone/text voting here during you're a star. I just don't believe that all votes cast are actually counted. I don't think phone systems or text systems can handle a huge amount of votes in such a short amount of time. Only my opinion, I don't work in telecoms but I think a return to the jury system would be better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

ahh yes that must be it.. it's an eastern European conspiracy. Maybe they could do all that within ten minutes because they are organised? Just because we couldn't do it over here within ten hours doesn't mean it can't be done. I can almost picture the Irish alternative. Eircom setting up callcentres manned by tens of thousands of staff writing down the votes on post-it notes and sticking them to their foreheads. "Have we a count in yet Bridey?"

Ahh it's good to laugh at yourself every once in a blue moon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 641 ✭✭✭Dimitri

a return to the jury system might be even worse, can you imagine an experienced critic voting for songs like the ones you're a star has entered?

AH TO HELL WITH IT ALL.

THat's the last time I watch the Eurovision.

Wasn't like that in my day. WHERE are the Johnny Logans, the Dana's, the Eimear Quinn's and Charlie McGetting and all that lot.

There will be no cokes and tayto in my house this Saturday. I'm not going to watch in protest at the rigged voting system...

    I'm off to bed.

    DIsgusted with it all.

    :):):):)

PS - I'll be onto Joe Duffy tomorrow, he'll sort it all out and make the monsters go away!

Some of the posts in here make me want to puke. I wonder what it feels like to represent their country knowing that you don't have the full support of your country and knowing that there are people watching back home thinking the same as some what's been said in this thread. They did their best and it's not their fault that their song was sh!t. They're fantastic singers.
