first time insurance for scooter/moped

    hi there,
my brother will be celebrating his 18th bday shortly, and the rest of us family members were considering chipping in to buy him a moped.
Thing is, I can't get any quotes online for him - it seems to be the same old story for moped insurance as it is for motor insurance - nobody wants to insure an 18 yr old youth.

So we are considering scrapping the idea altogether, but I was wondering if anyone knows of an insurance company that might offer a quote?

    thanks for your help

try hibernian & talk to the bike shop regarding getting a quote from Aon. Those are your two best (only) bets.

^^^ Thats probably you're best bet. I was 17 getting insured on my moped the first time (back in 2003) and Aon only charged my €895, which is pretty reasonable. Insurance rates have gone up in the last 2 years though
