a mate in england is building a machine and i said i'd give him some advice.

    here are the spec's

    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ skt. 754
    Elite K8T800-A VIA K8T800 skt754 1600FSB DDR +SATA +6 ch. audio ATX
    2 x 512MB DDR RAM
    OcUK GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3
    2 hdd's
    2 1 xcd/rw drive 1 x dvd rom

i couldn't of stressed more the importance of a good psu to him but he is on a very very very tight budget, i reccommended antec and he said they are too dear.

he then said how about this Enermax EG375AX-VE Noisetaker 370w

i don't know if the wattage would be enough? would it?

very decent power supply only 69Euro

to answer your question 370w will be loads if hes not going to be overclocking

yeh i don't think he'll be overclocking so the enermax will be fine so, i just wanted to make sure as i had problems with a psu when i was building on the cheap.

Enermax are a great brand, and 370w from a reputable company is heaps for all but the highest power rigs.

just another quick question but not related to the psu.

he's getting the retail version of the cpu, will he need thermal paste or is there a thermal pad on the heatsink or will they supply thermal paste?

retail come with thermal goop already on the HS.

Hiper are pretty good aswell, a bit louder perhaps from what I hear.

If i were him/you , go for a socket 939 CPU + Motherboard...754 is out dated at this stage, THe future lies on 939 ( for a while anyway ). Its worth it and same price if not cheaper.

the hiper or enermax is a good choice, whichever he chooses
