every so often generally around 10pm my lan connection to my notebook dies and the notebook refuses to log or restart have to lift the battery and pull the power cable. Its not an OS prob as it still happens after a fresh format and install.

Have you looked in the event viewer (cp/admintools/eventviever/system) ? See what that tells you!

Is it "around" 10pm or does it seem to be the exact same time?

As beller says, check your event viewer.

Good point If its the exact time it would seem to be a sceduled task , but on the other hand a fresh format & Install should solve it. When you reinstall , does it happen straight away or after install something or restore your setting etc...?
