i need advice on synths please?

hi, i'm in alt band. i'm looking to spend no more than 500 bills on a synth that will get me the real warm synth sounds of gary numan and the cure. ive checked out the microkorg which was quoted at 368 euro and the alesis micron is 500. could anyone give any advice on what i should or should not get?

Actually, on that same note I'm thinking of buying a new synth and was looking for something that would give me sounds reminiscint of the Cars/the Killers. Any gigging keyboardists out there who do alt.rock : what equipment do you use?

The Korg MS10 is a pretty classic synth, used by Gary Numan back in the day and by the likes of Sigur Rós nowadays
