    Hi,

I am looking to buy a good quality printer for printing out photos and also printing wedding invitations.
Could someone recommend a good printer which would be suitable for above job and also would be economical ink wise?

    Thanks,

You should check out the Canon iP range of photo printers. The Canon iP1500 starts at about €100 but if you're going to be printing alot of pics, maybe you should look at the iP4000, iP5000 and higher. The Epson R200 is also a good photo printer. Both the Canon and Epson have seperate ink tanks which means you only have to buy a yellow ink tank if you run out of yellow as opposed to HP's way of only having a black and a colour cartridge which means if you run out of yellow but still have lots of cyan and magenta left in the cartridge, you still have to buy a new cartridge and dump the old one. The ink for those Canon and Epson's are cheap, between €10 and €20 for each colour.

I have an R200 and i find the quality is great. As for cartridges, i get the ones in the yellow box from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk. So far no problems.

I got this one. Well I got the MP370, not the MP390.
The main difference was that the 390 had fax built in which I didn't need

Do't think ELara do the MP370 anymore

Can't rave enough about it, Perfect printouts everytime, just use the corect photo paper. Ink ius pretty cheap also, which should be a big consideration for any printer.

The MP390 doesn't seem that great a deal.

Just did a quick google on it, and the MP390 gets about 130 pages per black cartridge at 5% coverage. The Epson R200 gets 450 pages graphic per black cartridge(5% coverage). Now, i'm not sure how accurate those figures are, but even allowing for some mistakes, theres a huge difference there.

EDIT: Its also more than twice the price of the Epson, so if you don't want a scanner/faxer/all-in-one, its probably not the one for you.

    Hi,

I was on pixmania.co.uk and saw an Epson R300 for £71 I think or around that.

That seems like a good printer according to its reviews.

    hey,

i'm still kind of deciding here but i'm pretty sure i'm gonna order the canon pixma ip4000r, it's a beautiful printer and i've found a beautiful price for it online aswell. i would go for the ip5000 model as it has a higher res, but i'm gonna sacrifice that for the wifi!

Have you priced cartridges? A more expensive printer with cheaper cartridges is always better value in the long run.

yeah i hear that my friend. i have a canon ip1500 at the moment and i'm down getting the inks refilled once or twice a week. thing about this printer is it only takes a colour ink and a black ink, the former of which has three separately colours in it but when you run out of one you have to pay to have the whole ink cartridge refilled which really bothers me! :) the ip4000r (and all models above) take 5/6 ink tanks so you're only paying for the ink you use. i've decided against this printer because i'm only living in a bedsit and i don't really need wifi so i'm going for the canon pixma 5000 - it's not wireless but it's a better printer with higher resolution. found it at a great price of €172 here http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/54555/art/canon/pixma-ip5000-printer.html

I bought the IP4000 - the best purchase I have ever made. The photo print quality is astounding.

are the canon printers crippled by proprietary chipped inky deelies, or can you get good results from cheap ink ?

You can get cheap ink for the canons. Never used them though. The official cartridges are about €13-€16 each.
