Can you get contraception pills for free or cheaper than the pharmacy somewhere? In a family planning unit or clinic maybe? In Dublin area preferably.

You need a perscription from a doctor for all types of the Contraceptive pill.
It is possible to shop arround different chemists on price a small amount.
The ifpa clinc may fill some perscriptions but I have no idea what they would charge.

I can't see why anywhere would give them to you for free.

I have experiences from other countries where you can get free ones from some youth clinics. So I was just curious if there's something similar here.

You get them free in the UK under the NHS. I don't see why they wouldn't be free in Ireland tbh.... something like money shouldn't stop a woman from being able to protect herself from getting pregnant.

But I never found any way of getting them in Ireland for free, but the cost of a month's prescription wasn't too bad.

doctor in ucd gave me them free, and the first time i went on the pill the doc who prescribed them to me and gave me some free.

however these were just samples, you wont get any kind of supply for free, and they aren't cheap either unfortunately

You can get them cheaper from clinics.

My GF (Actually, I) pay about 4.50 a month for it.

    4.50 a month? That's nothing!

Seems strange that they're not available free, considering you can get condoms for free fairly easily

If you have a medical card they are free.....but thats the only free way I know of.

Condoms and pills aren't exactly comparable.

Pills affect a woman's hormone levels and should only be given to an individual upon seeing a doctor. There isn't just one pill for everyone. For example my sister started taking a pill and it turned out that she was allergic to it. Handing pills out takes a bit more care than say handing out condoms.

As far as I am aware a girl can get a three month prescription from ifpc at a reduced cost or free, not sure on this. The price of the pill for a month is resonable enough.

Wow that really is nothing?!?!? I go to my dr in college and then get a discount price in th uni pharmacy, and even at that i pay 10e a month for mine, but that could depend on the drug-ie if it's microlite it might be cheaper...if ur in college i'd check it out, alternatively go to ur local well women clinic, the ones i can think of are on liffey st-beside pravda, and in the square beside the uci..

otherwise i'd visit the positive options website

The Gay Men's Health Project (an Eastern Health Board project) gives them out; I assume (but don't actually KNOW) that conventional STD clinics do as well.

I am a regular poster on this site, but just thought i'd go unreg for this one. In relation to the pill, is it 100% safe. Its just that my girlfriend has told me shes just been to the doctor to get the pill. Thats fine I just need to know if I need to wear a condom, I guess I should wear it for protection of diseases and that. But what about a couple who have been going out for a long time, the guy hardly forks out money for condoms every time, does it just come to a stage where they decide well I think it'll be fine without a condom.

I sound like a retard, but its just inexperience!!!

No form of contraceptive is 100% safe. Many couples just use one form of contraceptive but this still bears a risk.
