    Hi,

I'm upgrading my system with a new EPox motherboard. I assembled everything correctly, however when I boot up the system doesn't respond. The lights in my DVD player and CD re-writer flash but there is not beep from the bios.

I've been told that some power supplies might not be able to drive newer motherboards. I don't have exact details about the power supply but it's says Intel Pentium 4 ready.

    The mother board is EPoX EP-4PLAI-A, I848P, Socket-478, ATX ATA/SATA, SC-DDR400, Sound, LAN, AGP8X.
    I've got a Intel Pentium 4 , 3Ghz and 512 MB of ram.

    Can anyone provide some advise?

The 20pin and 4pin connectors are all in the correct way.

Also try removing the CPU and see if you get any beeps from post. A fried CPU can also give you a total blank on startup.

    Cal.

Does your epox board have any diagnostic leds? and one more thing about epox boards I would check to see if any capacitors have leaked or expanded, unfortantly epox are notorious for using cheapo capacitors.

The PSU is an Eagle , model DR-D350 ATX.
I've done a google on this and all I can find for Eagle and PSU are medical power supply units.

The CPU and mainboard are brand new so hopefully this shouldn't be the problem.

Your psu seems fine, Eagle Tech/Sky Hawk make damn fine psu`s. This may seem silly but did you check the bios jumper is set correctly? Sometimes one can overlook this.

Edit: What wattage is you psu? Does it have dual +12 rails?

Sorry, a bit over my head.

Regarding the Wattage, the maximum is 330W and the boards says it needs a PSU with a minimum 250W so that should be ok.

330 watt isnt ideal so I would suggest you unplug everthing and just leave cpu\mem\vid card and try to boot. Oh and just double check your bios jumper is shorting the correct pins. Your board should have diagnostic leds read your manual about them.

Thats a link to exact motherboard I got from komplett:
    http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=310

Is 330 watts too little or too much?
Tried booting with all PCI cards out and just bare minimum in and it was still the same.

What graphics card do you have. Unless its something like a 6800GT or an x850XT, then 330w should be fine. Make sure you have the 4 pin connector connected

Sgtshafts suggestion is probably a good one to follow. Check the CPU also. make sure it is correctly inserted in the socket.

    Good look.

By bare minimum do you mean the PSU?

Will be doing this at the weekend.

by bare minimum I mean mainboard, cpu, psu, no PCI cards or no graphics cards and still I got no beeps from mainboard.
