I've found a few Irish sites to be /very/ fast for downloads and they mirror a lot of major sites. I'm sure others have nuggets out there.

    My faves are:

heanet.ie (in particular because this has a sourceforge mirror, but also mirrors lots of others stuff)
    and
ftp.esat.net (got linux distro's from this one, but it also mirrors lots of sites)

    Anyone have others?

Heanet is super get 320kb shame its always small files(wonder if Syxpak can get some nice big files onto it).
Peoples Eircom personal sites are super fast too.

    Heanet is this business

...especially since my college has a 34Mb ATM link into it :)
The heanet ftp is also available via IPv6, which is nice.

http://mirror.ac.uk is probably better if you're on an ISP that doesn't peer with INEX, such as UTV.

HEANet supply the major colleges in Ireland with their internet connection, so heanet downloads are always very very fast here in UCC.

The fastest I've seen was 3100KB/sec one weekend from ftp.heanet.ie when not many others were using the bandwidth.

Very true nothing like getting filez at 11mb/sec :)

I hate you, I hate you all. I've gone from 1.5Mbps (which would have been upgraded to 3Mbps by now) to bloody 56k due to a move (living in my dad's now... and does he see the point in getting broadband? No...). Grrrr, I hate you all.

What? The 700MB *nix distro's too small?

i think he'd be referring to files off their sourcefourge mirror..which do tend to be relatively small....
