Hi,
Just wondering did anyone else get a load of spam into there gmail account? Mine has been grand since i opened it in september but last night till present its been filling with junk mail.

Unusual thing is that these emails are not address to me, there address to e_smtp@gmail.com, alisoncm@gmail.com and other gmail addresses, i have not signed up to any service, the address that these messages are coming to is a private address that i barely give out to people,

Also these emails tend to be written in german or dutch and mainly contain a link to a site with news or a german site, there not really the usual condoms, sex, viagra emails.

Would help if anyone sends me some info. Also to note i keep reporting them as spam but every hour i get a new mail coming from a changed address. Examples of the origin addresses are:

Yup, google has been under attack of late and gmail seems to have been stung too, I have been getting more spam than normal. I believe the hacking earlier in the week has something to do with this. It is almost like the accounts list has been accessed.

well its got a report spam button, i've gotten 1 spam mail today, and thats the first one i've gotten so far

16 Accounts!? I thought I was bad with three. Seriously, what's the need for 16 accounts? Anyway, I have no spam. Stop signing up to porn sites and you won't get spam.

I access my GMail through OE, and thus never see the spam, but on a recent visit to the www.gmail.com interface, I discovered the 'Spam' folder and found it full of crap with sender's names like Crinkledy M. Rabbit. Some of the names were amusing.

no it actually wont open up even the log in page...

its somewhat annoying.

Yeah i've been getting that weird German spam today, bloody hell it's annoying. Grr where did they get my address. The weird thing is, when i look at the email, it's not even addressed to me.

Yup, i suppose its safe to assume the gmail staff are fully aware of the problem but it wouldnt be a bad idea to submit each of your issue's and hopefully they can get it sorted.

No, I don't do that.
I've got one for my name, one with my initial and surname, the rest are aliases. Like snapscan1212p and snappieT(must register that one now).

I use them all for different functions: personal, professional, websites that make you sign up for stuff etc. And some of them are simply file storage (emailing to myself)

The mails are from Sober.P infected hosts... it first began propogating itself last week and has now turned (actually the spam only began sunday evening) to just churning out german right-wing spam instead.. for those running spamassassin I'd reccomend adding in the following ruleset (although its too late at this stage): http://mailscanner.prolocation.net/german.cf

Original Poster: Don't worry how the spam has arrived in your account.. usually the address is just random anyway (and you may happen to have a very easily guessable account)... also don't worry about the sender (thats usually either forged or taken from an address book on the infected host).

I have 10 Gmail accounts because my website that i am designing uses that as the system beacuse of the fact it is more security an I run about 4 of them and know the password to the rest.
16 accounts is too many with no purpose for them.

P.S. Spam originated because you signed up to a website that belongs to a network of foreign, porn, travel etc. that have joined together, always revise the privacy policy on a website or download "EULAlyzer" from "download.com" to revise. That is what I do...

there are programs that trawl through websites looking for email addresses. its not just the users of boards you have to worry about
