Of course you lose your XP activation key once you do this and therefore CANT go back to XP once you realise 64 is pointless and not much applications support it. Also device drivers for any small brand products are non existent and much of your hardware will need to be dumped basically. I would advise to steer clear of this until a time when it is neccesary to upgrade.

Any application that runs in winxp will work with 64, it just won't be optimised for it.
    For example farcry64bit http://www.amd.com/farcry

You could be right about the drivers though. There is full support for my laptop(Acer Ferrari 3400), so I have no reason not to upgrade.

Investigate whether or not 64-bit device drivers are available for the components in your PC and the peripherals that you use (scanners, cameras, and so on). Since your 32-bit drivers will not work on this version of Windows, it is important that you make sure your devices are supported. You can find many of these supported devices on Windows Marketplace.

    It is what it's.

And it erases your hard drive - so you would need to be able to do a full backup of data and have all the reinstall disks to hand. - Also if you have an OEM copy of XP (most people) then it depends if the reseller will give you the upgrade not microsoft.
