Has anyone done the 1st Cadets interview yet? If so, how did you get on?

I am ex Army not FCA, basically the chances getting into Cadets are based on Political Pull and not by Merit, the Amount of Muppets getting in because Daddy is a Commadant or you well in with the local parish priest or Bishop determines how you get in.

This is the reality no matter how much they say canvassing will disqualify, I was on a board as a NCO a few years ago and we had great candidates and the morons got in, so it has'nt change much either.

Goto a Real Army like the Brits where you will excel more from your merits and not who you know.

I'm sure there is plenty of that alright but not all 60 or so army cadets could come from "who you know" sources, could they?

How do they actually decide who gets in? Is it up to 1 person to make the final decision?

I would say 99% get in the Nepotism or you know who way.

It should be done on merits of Interview, education, sporting achievements etc etc

In reality it is done, is he well in, does he know the right people is he part of the old boys network.

We interviewed one guy, who had a degree from DCU in Computer Science was in the FCA, good sporting achievements and a good high class all rounder.

Only one problem he had a thick dublin accent and was from Darndale.

Now he had more merit than the other pricks from Malahide(no offence to anyone from there) or D4 or Cork 4 (Douglas,Rochestown etc).

I have seen and heard it countless times this happening.

The same guy, I advised to goto the brits and in 5 short years he is a major in the Royal Corp of Signals....

Not putting you off, but it is the way it works and is wrong...

Thats why so many Privates and NCO's will tell you that Officiers are Morons.

hmm.....I had heard of that before. Hopefully it has changed. I saw people writing about similar stuff for the gardai in the garda thread on this site.

This year they have gone to a lot of effort to make it more attractive to graduates, that was one of the mian reasons that helped me make the decision to apply. I'm no sportsman but I have a degree in Computing, am in the FCA and am fairly fit.

What way are they supposed to decide (nepotism aside) on people getting in, is it a panel of people after the final interview?

I think that these days you can ask them for a letter stating the specific reasons you didn't get in and also, where you placed overall in the competition.
