    Hi Folks,

Having a bit of a problem with an old hard drive. Its from an old gateway that was lying around for ages so I decided to take it out and take data off it by putting it in an external USB HDD enclosure- However as soon as I put it in I accidently yanked out power cable. Now the drive itself wont even spin up or tick over !?

So i'm wondering if the motor or something like that is broken and if so can i still get the data off it ??

Its only a few gb's but want some of the archive emails that are on it.

If anyone wants to have a look at it or can get the data off of it for me post up or PM me- I'm in Dublin

    Thanks
    David

Have you tried putting it into the PC? Could be the power cable on the enclosure is broken.

I've played around with a good few harddrives in my time. I have recovery software and what not. If you drop it over to my house i'll take a look for you.

PM me if you want me to take a look. I'm in Ballinteer D16

Find a near identical drive and take the chipset and power off it 9its screws off)

Attach them onto yours should get a boot or 2 out of it, wont damage the dat as you only using the connectors so to speak.

Read before somewhere about running a cold shower for a few minutes which helps remove dust from the air. Searching for it I found,
    http://www.themodfathers.jolt.co.uk/?page=&action=show&id=6151
which advised against it but does interesting little read about putting a plastic cover on your drive so you can watch it spin.

I've no planned trips to town at the mo. But If you are near the IFSC I could probably organise a point you could drop it to.
