    That's Pat Metheny's 42 String guitar!

I've posted about 8 strings, 9 strings, but honest to god, I don't think I'd top that whatsoever. :D

    ****ing madness altogether.

No no, it is perfectly playable! The guy does actually use it, and well. Only heard some of his stuff, but I'd love to see a video of him play it.

I presume the other strings are tuned so that they resonate when he plays to make some sort of drone like the tarb on a sitar.

Ive seen him play it. Was freeform jazz stuff, interesting to say the least.

Where'd you get to see him?

    Only on TV unfortunately :(

The performance channel. Shows some great stuff on that channel. Covers alot of different musical styles too. Keep an eye on the listings he may be on again.

Pat Metheny's got talent dripping out his yingyang, John2 nailed, the strings are resonators.

Still, my hat is doffed in the direction of the unbelievable Charlie Hunter, who plays separate bass and guitar lines at the same time on his eight string.

I have a couple of his CD's. It's not the most exciting music in the world but his talent is phenominal.

Speaking of seperate bass lines... Wouldn't you just love a chapman stick!?

Nah, don't like em. If I'm going to play a bass line I'm going to ****ing nail it, not tap it politely :D

You should check out Charlie Hunter if you can, he plays bass lines while he's playing regular jazz rhythms and leads, all a-plucked, unbelieveable coordination.

I've been meaning to check out Charlie Hunter's music alright. One of Satch's pupils wasn't he?

I think so. He played witht he Disposable Heroes Of HipHiprisy for a while. One of the first people I can recall to play a 7 string, and the only persoan I know of who plays that 3 bass and 5 regular string guitars

Excellent stuff. Any albums you can recommend?

There's one released as the Charlie Hunter Trio (I thnk the rest are quartet and quintet) which has an interesting interpretation of Come As You Are on it and other goodies, decent album, the only other album I have of his is called Ready Set Shango, which I found to be a little dull.

I shall venture forth to acquire said album with most haste!
