Right, well I'm godmother to my niece and her christening is this Sunday and I'm still at a loss as to what to get her.

My relatives have suggested the traditional christening cup or a silver bracelet but I'd like to get her something different.

    Any suggestions?

    A Ferrari.

No seriously, how about something for her future? Stuff like savings bonds or whatever....I know it's boring and you can't wrap it and tie a big bow round it but in 18 years a cup or a spoon doesn't compare to a few hundred quid.

I suck at picking presents :(

Cheers for that Wertz. I've already opened a post office account and put a few quid in each week. Intend giving to her for her 21st so there should be a few grand in it then.

Would still like her to have something to keep. A friend suggested a silver locket with her name and d.o.b. engraved on it.

My 21st is coming up soon. Hopefully my godparents did something similar

An engraved photo frame is a nice idea and something that can be kept. Do you know the godfather well? Maybe you could get something for your niece together.

The silver cup is probably the best idea as that is the cup that is used to pour the water over the baby's head. at least one of the godparents should buy this.

From the OP post I get the impression she wants to get something more personal than the traditional gifts. One idea might be to get the christening cup together with the other godparent and then something else each.

Thats a good idea!! Or you can get a star or something named after her... not sure how you do it but this inter-web-net thingy could tell you.

Lay down a good bottle of wine every year on her birthday and give them to her on her 21st. I can't remember who I know that did this, but it did happen... If you went to a reputable wine shop they'd tell you which would have that sort of longevity and appreciate in quality and value.
