Sunday Work

    I am a part-time worker in the a clothes shop, I work on Sundays. Am I entitled to extra pay? If so how much? I am payed €8 an hour so I really doubt it's been factored into my pay.

    Any help would be great.

    Yes you are entitled to at least 1.5 times your rate, so €12 in your case

    I don't think you are. Extra Sunday pay is only an entitlement based on contractual or union agreement.

    if these are your agreed hours of work, then you get paid normally.

    You're not entitled to extra pay. While most shops will pay employees time and a half, it's not law

    Rights in regards to Sunday working don't really apply to part-time workers, unless you're a "part-time" worker who actually works a full week at pro-rata pay.

    if there not giving you time and a half id look for another job, i used to get time and a half when I worked in dunnes and I was only part time but they do have a strong union presence with mandate but I dont think too many places dont pay extra.

    I got on to the citizens' advice centre and the entemp and the Department of Trade and emplyment and they both informed me that s.14(1) of the Organiseation of working time act 1997 i.e. extra pay for sunday work DOES apply to part-time staff.

    Only if it's extra.

    If your are part time, and you work weekends only, then you get time only.

    Do you only work Sundays though, or do you work other days too?

    An employee who is required to work on a Sunday (and the fact of his or her having to work on that day has not otherwise been taken account of in the determination of his or her pay) shall be compensated by his or her employer for being required so to work by the following means...

    That essentially says otherwise. Your have had your pay determined by your role, which includes working on a Sunday. I, for example, signed a contract saying my normal days are Monday-Friday, but I may be required to work time outside this. However, since sunday working wasn't taken into account in calculating my pay, I'm entitled to compensation for it.
