I have been coughing up stomach acid for the past 2 hours and my throat is in sh*t, I took a rennie and it sorta stopped the acid from coming up but I have a rotten taste in my mouth and my throat is stinging the hell outta me! does anyone have any advise on what to eat/drink/take to get rid of the taste and ut an end to the volatile acid eruptions?

never heard of Maalox, is it like Rennie?

and you'll have to define "did you get it much?" do you mean did it last long or do I get it often

Go off out to your local garage and get a golly bar or something.

Maalox is another antacid/heartburn etc. thingy. Give it a try.

Maalox is a chalky (but very effective) liquid indigestion remidy. It's been used for years and as far as I know it's still often given to people who are on medicines with adverse stomach effects.

As for milk, I always think of drinking milk (or taking any dairy products) for indegestion as somewhat of an urban myth. While milk is slightly alkaline and will have an instant effect of neutralising some stomach acid it still needs to be digested and more acid will be created to do this. Dairy produce has also been shown to have very mild effects of indigestion in many people - something that won't aid an existing problem.

My suggestion - cold water and an indigestion remidy of choice.

I have the same problem. Been seeing consultants for the last couple of months and they stuck cameras up my nose and microsopes down my throat. Like me you obviously over-produce stomach acid. I find Rennie useless and Maalox/Gaviscon make me get sick. If you can convince your doc to put you on a tablet called Nexium, that should do the trick. Its great stuff but a months supply (30 tabs) is around €80. He'll prob just refer you to a consultant though. Its a money racket and they all have to get their cut before you get looked after.

oh man, when I was younger I thought Golly Bars were the sh*t! I adored them, aswell as the mint choc ices and mint Feasts (who can remember them?)

well unfortunatly its 11:30pm so the garage is closed and like I said I never heard of Maalox, oh well, hopefully the milk and the bog-standard (or so its being made out to be) rennie tablets will be enough

I have had a bad cold/cough over the past week. My troath was in bad shape too, anyway I went to Macky D's and got a vannila milkshake and it pretty much does the job for the troath. Works better then just milk and its cold which is good.

I suffered from really harsh heartburn for years because of some reflux ulcers, I used to use Pepcid 2 (I think) and I chewed rennies most of the day if I was having a bad one.

Just take note of which food types **** with your stomach and learn to avoid them. Same with alcohol, some drinks used leave me with heartburn for 4 or 5 days afterwards. I always found that just avoiding the food that aggravated my stomach gave me a lot of relief.

If it persists go to a doctor, believe me I put up with a lot of pain and discomfort for years because I was too stubborn to admit that I might have something wrong with my stomach. Ulcers at 20 are a problem for "other" people .

its not exactly a long term solution and i wouldn't do it everyday but mix a little baking soda with water and drink it, its a strong enough base to neutralise the stomach acid-at least it'll tide you over til the mornin.

Eh. I wouldn't do it full stop....

You do not want to be drinking strong bases, under any circumstances. Ever.

While a basic solution will have a short term positive effect (an hour or two) it will more than likely cause a greater level of acid to be created in response.

    Dont drink milk!
It offers short term relief, then makes everything worse when it changes to lactic acid.
Get a bottle of gaviscon advance, i always found it the most effective solution bar prescription drugs. (i have 6 ulcers at last count)

I think the underlying thing you should get from this thread is go do a doctor.

It could be something easily fixed or something serious that needs to be looked at.

I don't wanna go to some cracked saw-bones just because I have heartburn, I'd be paying up-wards of 50 yo-yo's to be told to take some rennies and have a rest or some ****e like that
