seen as how there's so many arts people here talking about the history of this and the revolution of that, :p i thought i'd start a thread for the exam sitting students in general-how they're progressing, crappy papers etc.

so far for me 2down, 2 to go
chemistry on monday was fine- no probs
maths today went alright, scraped a pass i reckon (again big thanks to the boardsies who helped me)

exam on friday then the following thursday and i'm done :D

well so far so good for me.
my first maths paper went well, as did exp. physics.
my maths modelling paper in maths physics went much better than expected, and the mechanics paper was easy enough.
I've got a geology practical tomorrow though, which may go horrendously wrong, but we'll see :D
and i've 2 more papers after that - phew! :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

your timetable sounds a lot tougher than mine :)
why do you have a geology practical tomorrow- is it a practical test or something???

geology definitely does'nt rock - all my mates hated it, didn't go to the lectures/pracs etc. and now they're screwed for the test - as the cycle goes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

yeah it's a practical test. It shouldn't be too bad really but i'm kinda screwed for the actual exam - it's gonna be a stressful weekend!
but i'm finished on tuesday so its not so bad :)

Ghostchant, you're lucky modelling went well. Have you ever seen the absolute atrocity that was the summer 2003 modelling paper? That was my year...

And as for exam progress? I think I've gotten a first in putting my feet up, and in making it to work on time. :)

    i dodged a bullet there

Eu law and land law, Land down today.

The two compsulsory subjects and always tough enough. But I crashed and burned on Part B of EU where you only have one problem question to do, I had studied plently but literally blanked in the exam...ffs Whats even worse was going mby my Part A I was onto a 1st.
Land, topics came I suppose but some odd questions, with a tough enough problem question on easments.
3 more to go, finished on 27th. Most of my year are on the piss today because its 2 weeks until their last exam.
The spaced out exams are good in one way but its really draining getting no break, not studying today after Land but I did wake up at 4.30 to study so Im pretty wrecked anway.
Labour law on Wednesday...1 person in 20 years has failed..,score

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭kasintahan

Psy 1 - better than expected.
IS 1 - no idea, i still don't know how we spent a entire year studying it.

Tomorrow - IS 2 - i'm done so little study that i'm listening to Gary Numan on comically HUGE Sony Head phones (think RTE style only bigger).

PSY2/3 and Computers are next week and i have yet to study for them...

Yeah its annoying when that happens - happened to us today too! Thought I'd be grand for RF circuits and systems (all receiver/transmitter design and that sorta stuff), was real relaxed and everything then got into the exam and kinda messed it up. I'm pissed off now cos I should have done well in it - it was just that the questions were put in a slightly unexpected way which they weren't in previous year's papers :( Bah I'm waffling now, time for sleep I think!

Tomorrow it'll be four down, and three to go. So far so good apart from the little hiccup with maths. Machines and Power Systems went very well yesterday - they weren't entirely evil and set a few of the old favourite questions.

Tomorrow is communication theory - a highly strange exam. He wants people to think, so what he does is make new questions every year. And it's full of stuff like "design... what frequency would you decide to use...". Easy to pass, probably difficult to get high marks in.

The compusory questions are evil. The Elec Circuits guy does that - and it seems to be a totally mixed bag what the compulsory question might be.

Also, how does one study something you only looked at for two hours in the whole year? Engineering Computation... what a load of bollocks! But now i'm ****ting it cos i really haven't a clue what the hell it's about!

Ah you'll be grand for eng comp - didn't go to it all year then spent a day studying it and passed no prob. How have you only 7 exams - it's crazy! When I think of my 14 subjects last year - now in my day elec eng was proper difficult - proper I tells ya!

Emm... :o:o:o not so easy to pass, you've gotta be very care of himself, he marks wierdly - I came out of it last year sure I had 60%, ended up getting 30% :( The exam we had today was his as well, it was all "design a receiver to do a,b,c,d,e comment on choice of frequency, filters ect" I don't like design questions cos you never know how you did, and especially with him. I mean if they ask you to explain or define something at least you know whether or not you've answered it properly, and if its a maths Q you have a fair idea how you did. Design + exams = not good

    I'll stop moaning now!

    6 Down, 1 to go.

    Algebra - v good
    Microeconomics - good
    Accounting - hoped I passed! :(
    Macroeconomics - good
    Statistics 1 - v good
    Statistics 2 - good
Analysis and Calculus - we'll soon see

    Information Systems - Suckeed ass

That's good to hear! I went to two weeks of it, decided it was all bollocks and took the extra hour in bed!

Yeah same here, he asked a weird one today! Hope it went well for ya! :D . He was there during ours as well, and came around to all of us to point out that the Sine Wave in the graph was in fact a Sine Wave, as it looked too pointy to him! :)

You lot must be geniuses! To think we could have had circuit theory (by the ScanMan no less), E-Mag  and Comp Eng thrown in... *shudders*

english has been passable so far (i think)
but i fúcked up majorly with the european history paper. hopwfully do well enough on the roman paper to scrape an overall pass. (shouldnt be too difficult since the lovely Elva told us whats coming up!) :D

That history paper was a nightmare... 'cause I missed so much of the course it was hard to get a handle on the subject matter... roll on the 18th!! Porterhouse get ready!!

    Irish - Fabulous
    English - Less so
Art History - Bad bad bad.

I finished today though so i don't care how anything went......til i get the results.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

Politics 1: Oh jesus, what an appaling paper... :(
Politics 2: Ha ha ha ha ha - wait, you don't seriously expect me to answer this do you?! It's GIBBERISH!! (Political Research, ladies and gentlemen)
Politics 3: Hmmm... Surprisingly not so bad - although I left after an hour and realised after a few minutes that I left out so much stuff that I knew ARRGH
    History 1: Meh. S'alright I guess. :o
History 4: Brilliant. F**king nailed this paper, the only one I can say that about so far. :D
History 2: Oh god oh god oh god... Abysmal. :(

So... Pretty bad. Just 2 left, Politics 4 and History 3 left - I'll pass and ace respectively. Will fail Politics, between 10-20% overall. Hopefully will pass History, and by my guesstimation I may even get 60-65%.

    It's f**ked up ain't it?

Seb, you're going to ace History on Wednesday? HOW?

I'm so screwed for that paper :(

    What's your elective?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

20th Century Britain. I was sure I posted that before, meh...

So there ya go. Averaged 65% in the essays, my best marks of this year. (They were on "Our Finest Hour" and "SuperMac" just in case ur interested!)
No problem. I loved this course, it's the only I've done in college that I can say that about. The only thing I ever really wanted to do. Wish I coulda just done the entire degree just on that... :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

    500TH POST! HUZZAH!

    Ahem.

You've failed 3 of what? 3 Papers of one subject, each subject, all the subjects combined...?

Basically, each subject you fail you have to repeat all the exams you had to do for that subject.

im in the same boat. i know this "anna" and she makes no reference to the fact that she completes a foul amount of study, hence her relaxed outlook for the rest of the exams

Bus. Inf. Systems - Insultingly easy
Management Accounting - Very little study but think i pulled it out of the bag
Company Law (tomorro) - should be ok, i can waffle
Crminal Law (tue) - legend of a lecturer never changes the paper

Stats (wed) - If the devil wiped his ass on a sheet of paper, you would have the stats exam

EU law (tue week) - should be ok. havent done anything for it tho - plenty of time.

    Pharmacology...6 down, 3 to go :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,326 ✭✭✭pretty*monster

    I finished 2 days ago :)

Philosophy was grand, History was vey dodgy, English was... I'm not sure actually, hard to tell.

The important thing is that it's all over now (until august).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

    I finished 2 days ago :)

    DAMN YOU, WENCH!!!! :D

One more left. History 3. No problem. :o

Left Politics 4 after an hour again... I should really being taking a count of how many hours I've actually been in the exams, against how many I SHOULD have been. I reckon I've only been in for half the time. Disgraceful.

Completely f**ked it up. Wrote a 2 pages for British Politics (ranted against Blair and his 'lapdog' approach to the 'special relationship'. Twas Fun! :D ) a sentence for Power, Discourse, Political B0ll0cks, and a sentence for Democratic Theory. Swell.
The important thing is that it's all over now (until august).

Quit being so pessimistic (I know; pot, kettle, black etc) you did grand, I guarantee it. I have a sense for these things.

Meh, I've never wanted two days to be over so much in my life.

Right in a truely blonde moment I've managed to lose my notes for my exam tomorrow morning. Why do I do things like this? Anyway the question is should I go or not. See we can do up to 5 optional subjects which we pick from a group of 8, and the best 4 of the 5 count marks-wise. Now although todays exam was a bit dodgy, I still think I'll do better on my other four options then I will on ADSP, so I'm wondering if I should bother going along to it on the off chance that it might actually be okay. Opinions?

If there's any way that it might be a good thing DO IT!!!

Regret the things you do rathre than the things you don't!

& best of luck at it too.

I'd do it....I second kittenkiller-better to have something to regret than nothing...plus you never know-you might do really well. You also may not, but if you don't do it then you won't know........

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

Nice quote - must remember that one! Exam suprisingly went grand, proving once and for all that boards knows best! Think I may have scraped 60% in it, which is all I was looking for :) . I stayed up till about 4 studying so now I'm wrecked, but have happilly discovered 4 big thermos flasks of coffee and tea on the top floor of the eng building (there was a talk on) drinking my third cup of it now! Hope your exam went well Sangre, in fact now that I think about it we were sitting right beside 2nd/3rd/4th BCL company law - was that yourselves?
