I am thinking about getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to queue to buy Aldi's Gericom External Hard Disk Drive. http://www.aldi.ie/images/data_product/1030657413427a1f8b9be17.jpg
Was wondering does anyone know about the Gericom brand. I have heard that some external drives can be as noisy as a train station - I dont want that. Anyone recommend a good external drive with c. 250 Gb storage.

Maxtor one touch. I have the 250GB model. I think they range from about 160 - 300/350 gb.

Here. Also includes a 6-in-1 card reader. I'm not up on HD's but it seems to be competitively priced consider its a HD plus an enclosure plus a card reader. I'm sure you could probably upgrade the HD when it fills up.

I bought two of these this morning, and they seem to be quiet enough. The spec is 250 GB, 7200 rpm, FAT32 External 3.5" Hard Drive, which connects to computer via USB 2.0. It has an integrated 6 in 1 Card Reader, 2 in-built USB 2.0 ports on the front, in an attractive aluminium case body with a nice blue light at the front. Price €149.99 VAT inclusive. Quite good value really and good for extra storage and for backup purposes. The cheapest of these I have seen in Ireland of this size were at least €200.
