Hi, I have an old merc coupe which I have just noticed has a rust patch on the door. There is also some paint peeling from the boot.

I am very happy with the car and hope to have it for years to come, as long as I can fix the rust and paintwork.

Have any of you had rust repairs done before or know of any good body repair shops that I could use?

Is it an expensive process? (Rust patch on door is at the edge of a panel and about the size of a €1 coin).

    Where are you located?

As for the evil tin worm, it depends on the nature of it, if the rust is surface only then you could prolly rescue it with rubbing down, anti-rust treatment more rubbing, priming and painting/laquering. If its too far gone then the options are more expensive as you may need to have the area cut out and new metal welded in then finnished off/painted. Job for a professional really.

    What model is it?

    Mike.

    Hi Mike,

am located in Dublin - live Dublin west, work city centre.

    It's an 11 year old W124 coupe.

I only recently noticed the rust and so am hoping it was caught in time but it's hard to know with rust.

I don't mind travelling within reason to get good repairs (reason being about 50 miles).

So I take it that rust repairs are a thing of the past for most people these days.

If anyone know of any specialists in this area please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Zoot

mercs of recent vintage are horrendes when it comes to rust.my advice is to sell the car as it will rot in front of u. do a google search and u will see my words are wise. mercedes spent hundreds of millions in sorting out rust repairs on warranties.

Its a w124 fer petes sake. They only rust if neglected. No other reason - they have no particular weak spots.

I don't know the Dublin scene so can't reccomend any body specialists...

    Mike.
