Help needed , advice needed anything. I am a pretty annoyed sky customer.

I have been a sky customer for 3 years now and have never once received a special offer or been offered a discounted rate .

My Brother who disconnected 8 months ago , today received a COME BACK TO US incentive from sky . Skyworld package for €31.28 if he stays for 3 months.I pay full whack . So i ring sky , enquiring as to why Existing customers don't get these offers. The nice lady and she was very polite advised , it is a random selection to get customers back to us. So I ask , is their a reward for being loyal . I am told . No . So I speak to a supervisor where i get he same line. I ask , If i disconnect , will I then get that offer . I am told no . So the upshot was , I was more or less told like it or lump it .

Any ideas . I'm pretty peeved at this .

I think you are getting peeved over nothing here. It is an incentive to get people back. Why should you be offered it? The world is full of such incentives, for either getting old customers back, or to get customers to switch from something else (like with credit cards).

Why don't you cancel like your brother did. Wait 8 months and see if you get a similar offer. If you do, great. If you don't .............

Thanks for the replies , I'm basically annoyed at the fact that when I asked if there were such offers available to existing customers , I was told point blank , No we don't do that at all . Maybe I am being a little dramatic , However I feel that they should reward loyalty .

I'd have to agree with Curios George here.

We hand over the guts of €750, some pay more, but we don't get incentives to stay, a nod to our loyality. Yes, there is the "rewards" scheme, but has anyone ever won anything from that? Very much UK based.

If Sky wasn't a monopoly, say it was like a supermarket, the likes of Tesco reward loyalty with their Clubcard; money back vouchers etc. As do Dunnes, petrol stations etc.

it is a fact of life !
Companies are willing to pay more to get the klant in the door .
You only have to look at the mobile telephone market and the banks.
It is a known fact that people are more likly to change their partner then change their bank.

What really is annoying is that fact that existing customer’s are really paying for the subsidies so sky can offer these discounts etc. I understand thats how things are done, but it doesn’t mean it fair.

Another thing is the ads. I am paying to watch programmes, not a sh**e load of ads. Other digital packages around Europe like Canal+, D+ TPS etc don’t have ads as it’s against the law to have ads on a ‘premium’ channel. But the law in the UK of course is different.

What really sad is not just that fact Sky are getting away with this but people think it s good service. But, what can you do when its from a different country. :(

It's not really going to change anyway is it .

I had the pleasure ( I use the term loosely) to work !! for chorus some years ago and there was a lad who used to work for the retentions team , down in clonmely I believe they were based , outsourced to some marketing crowd ,

Anyway , he was telling me that they used throw the sun moon and stars at people not to disconnect . free thsi , free that etc , of course it's only really okay if you can watch what they give free . ah sure , I used to help a guy installing in Limerick cable area . Handy really .

Anyway , not going to get a discount from sky . great service though , credit to them there.

perhaps phoning them to disconnect or downgrade might be the way to go

I thought they passed you to a customer specialist who tried to talk you out of cancelling, strange behaviour on their part

You said a mouthful there, DMC - Monopoly - the story of our lives.
This country is riven with the kind of rip-off culture that monpolies encourage.

Whilst there is only one Sky and only one cablco for each franchise nothing will change. It's all about money - not loyalty.

    :(

It gets worse, prospective NTL buyers are talking about merging it with Chorus

Sky provide a quality service, in my opinion. I've been 2.5 years with them, and apart from some minor storm disruption [ which Tony's company sorted for me expertly ], I've never had a problem with the service.

I was 8 years with Chorus/C.M.I. before that and I was on to them about loss of service at least once a month.

I am much happier paying €62.50 to SKY for quality service, rather than €30 odd to Chorus for a c**p service.

I agree with you eigrod, otherwise I would'nt pay Sky a premium.
The point being made is that consumers deserve better than a choice between a lamentably bad cableco service or an excellent but very
expensive satellite service - without 2 UK terrestrial channels on board
    either.

It makes no difference seeing as there is no competition allowed between them anyway.
There will be one cableco competing againt one satellite provider, what difference that will make I don't know.

Job losses for sure, but prices will only increase. :(

The most annoying thing I find is try to carry on a conversation with Sky's CSRs . Its like talking to a machine. They will only read the answers they are told to & nothing else. & everyone is Mr Mrs or sir, that really gets up my wick.. Although the female scottish accent is a turn on so.................
