It's defo worth getting. I had my passort stolen and had to pay 82 euros for a new one!!

By law, establishments must allow you entry with the national age card. I haven't got one yet, but my brother has one and never had a problem with it!

Nah it's a waste of time. Just use your passport.

passports are terrible they are huge and clunky something i don't like having in my pocket anyways i don't know about you though

You might as well go for it

    its €6.35

free to replace (well first time anyway)

and it fits in your wallet.

Yeah I'd recommend getting one too. It's handy as you can just leave it in your wallet all the time.

I've come across a few places that refuse to serve people with passports too and only accept garda cards, so they're great if you happen to find one of them too!

eh, no it doesn't. if they don't want you in, then end of story. read the tiny writing on the back.

But yeah, worth getting, they fit in your wallet, they're accepted as ID everywhere, they're cheap, and they don't expire. just don't hold your breath waiting for it, mine took 3 months, my friends took 6

Yeah get the national age card, its only €6, download the form here the link is at the bottom of the page. print it out, theres 2 pages print the two on one sheet back and front, get 2 passport pic and €6 and head off to the gardai station asap, i'm waiting nearly 5 weeks for mine now, my gaurd said it'd be 6 or 7 weeks so i'm expecting it soon.
Oh yeah, passports are clunky and very expensive to repalce if lost, plus if they starts to get worn, some countries might not admit you as they might mistake it for a fake. If you drive your drivers licence is handy, but then again i like to keep official documentation like that safe and new looking.

I meant that they have to accept it as a form of ID. Blah blah..

well worth gettin, my passport is all worn and stuff from using it out and a couple of places have started to turn me away saying ive tampered with it

Very handy. If you're hanging around town with your mates and you decide to go for pints, you're unlikely to have your passport with you. But with the agecard, you can keep it in your wallet and have it with you all the time.

ye i think i will get The National Age Card, it saves me bringing my passport or driving licence with me in case i lose it and 6 euro aint bad.

p.s. thanks for the link to the form.

We should all be barcoded at birth on the back of our necks, then there would be no need for age cards. Must pass that idea on to mcjowel whathisnaziface.

    get one

Nah it's a waste of time. Just use your passport.

All good and well until...oh whoops, you go and lose your passport a few days before going on holidays. Treat your passport as precious, don't drag it around with you! And also, as others have said it fits in your wallet snugly, and you get your second one free, and it's enshrined in law.

I've never gotten refused when I've produced it, and I've a mohawk in my pic.

I'd advise you to get one just because they're so handy to keep in your wallet.

However, I have run into problems using it in various off licences so carry something else as well. A usit or student card or something is usually OK.

I was out a couple of weeks ago.

I got mine before they started laminating them... i know this as a few mates of mine got theirs after me and they're laminated.

And over time, the wear and tear sitting in the wallet has my my face on it pretty faded and scratched.

And a bouncer in one pub in town looked at it and told me get a new one for next time. Me arse.. i'm not paying another €6. :D

But then again, i'm nearly always asked for it at clubs. At 21?! God damn my youthful appearance!

replacements are free, lost mine on holiday and picked up another one free of charge. Took a couple of weeks though.

Try using punctuation, it makes whatever you're trying to say easier for everyone to read.
I set up accounts in XtraVision, 2 in Galway, and 1 in Kilkenny and they accepted my garda ID and a bill, so what are you talking about "vidio memberships". It's spelled "Video" too... Unless you are talking about something else..?

does anyone know if there's any way of getting a fake "national age card" with your own picture on it?

friend of mine has one with someone elses name/age but his photo, he applied with a friend and the guards muddled the photos.

you give 2 photos to the guards and get none back?
why do u think dat is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭Ruadan

Apply 3 weeks before yer birthday 9helps if you know a fiew of the guards.)

Be ware though, mine is 2 1/2 years old, i barely resemble it, having shaved my head (obvious reasons) hasn't helped as i also appear to have aged more than 2 years.

have to show some hardasses the college id with the same pic to get in if i'm asked at all.

in case one gets damaged i would imagine.

They keep the picture on file anyway as the picture on the replacement is the exact same as the original.

Can you apply when your 17?Since the long wait and stuff?Maybe like a month before you turn 18.It would ease off the long wait,Imo age cards seem to be the best I.d since passports can be faked easly and also detected easier.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,390 ✭✭✭Stench Blossoms

No you have to be 18 before you can apply

Yes, go into a garda station and say "One fake ID, please!".
