Has any here every lived with someone they really hate?

Well this year I at college I moved into a house, and one of my room "mates" is a f~ckin a*sehole. He's rude to other people, annoying, childish and basically a tool. He's kinda a friend(I didnt know him before this though), but I hate him. The very sight of him...EAAAGHH. When I think of all the other people I could have got! There are so many sound easy going people around but this guy is the opposite.

Basically its depressing being around him. When he's not around I feel free. This whole year could have been much more relaxing and fun if he hadn't been around. I dont think many people like him but they dont say this straight out. He might ask me to live with him next year but there is no way thats going to happen.

Well, with just a week left in college I'll never have to live with him again, WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO :D

Has anyone else had a room mate they hate?

I once had to live with a guy who used the flat's water jug (Bought by me, used by everyone) as an ashtray. Not just once either. I was cleaning the damn thng out constantly.

Funny you should start this thread. My roommate is basically a selfish bitch who acts really nice when challenged to make you feel bad. For the whole year she has woken me up and kept my awake for hours every night, playing music and talking loudly with her friends. I let it go most of the time but several times I just had to say something cos it was affecting my life. I was missing my college classes cos I was so tired I overslept the alarm. I have it worst cos her room is next to mine but several times my other flatmates have been woken up as well. The first few times I talked to her about it she was nice about it and said she'd try to be more considerate but it became obvious that her promises meant nothing cos she carried on her behavior. The next time I said it she told me not to be so uptight and seemed to think being in college gave her a right to do whatever she wanted, and to hell with everyone else. That's easy to say if you have 7 hours a week (like her) and therefore can lie in until 12 every day, but the rest of us are in from 9-6 every day. One of my flatmates is a nursing student and works long shifts at the hospital, meaning she has to get up at 5.45.

One night the selfish bitch had loads of friends over and they were getting ready to go out. The nurse knew they'd be back home at 4am and keep her awake the rest of the night, so she went to tell the warden to come over and kick them out. The bitch assumed I had reported her (cos I'm the only one who has said anything to her about the noise) and has been asking me ever since, acting like I'M really mean for doing it, not even thinking about WHY someone was driven to walk over to the warden's house in the middle of the night. Since the warden told her not to have any more guests in her room after 11 (it's the exam period), she has had guests every single night and kept me awake 6 nights out of the last 7. I'm not well and I've been wrecked every day trying to study and not been able to take anything in. My exams start next week. Last night she didn't go out and I thought I could finally get 8 hours of undisturbed sleep - wrong. Her boyfriend came over and they were talking so loudly I didn't get to sleep until 4am when they stopped. Then it started again at 4.30!! I went and knocked on her door and told her to shut the f**k up and she acted like *I* was the one with the problem!! The cow has some nerve.

I've totally had enough. I am not being kept awake one more night, I need a lot of sleep and not sleeping before an exam is enough to mess it up for me. I am so annoyed that I even have to tell her this. She has been told by the warden not to make any noise during the exam period, and also it's pretty obvious. I don't hear a thing from my other flatmates after 11pm. She just does not get the hint. She thinks shes a good flatmate and that her behaviour is acceptable. I WILL KILL HER if she wakes me up one more time. I expect complete silence from 11-7 from now to the end of term. What should I tell her to scare her and make her listen?? BTW the warden hates her because she acted like a spoiled little brat and yelled at her and cursed when she came over to kick her friends out. She is just waiting for an opportunity to evict her.

This girl also NEVER does any cleaning, including her own dishes which she just leaves for other people to do. She has never taken out the bin and never helped us clean for an inspection. She finishes off my milk when she doesn't have any and has used my cups and bowls as ashtrays. She's just basically a lazy bitch who takes advantage of whoever she can and has the cheek to make ME feel mean for saying anything. It would serve her right to get evicted and be banned from coming back, but I think that might be going to far. Should I go to the warden or just tell her?

Yep, currently sharing my house with a ****. She's fat, ugly, arrogant, moody, irrational, rude, intolerant and a complete home-girl. Thinks America is the centre of the universe. Fortunately she's ****ing back off home to the USA soon.

Funny you should start this thread. My roommate is basically a selfish bitch who acts really nice when challenged to make you feel bad. For the whole year she has woken me up and kept my awake for hours every night, playing music and talking loudly with her friends...... <snip>

That one needs a head-shaving and quick.....

When she is sleeping get into her room with an electric razor and shave that ho's head... I don't think she'll be making too much noise after that

or.... fight fire with fire. You say she lies in til 12 every day. The place where you live is the most important thing that you will choose. Its where you go to chill, relax etc etc. Living with complete nutjobs is never good. I know in college you cant always choose your roommates but if you're in private accomodation you have the choice.

I have never lived with someone who I didn't really know beforehand and know that I wouldn't strangle because of noise pollution potential.

Emery Fat Muck, I'd like to smack that housemate of yours.

I know the type well, the "don't be so uptight" kind, the "this is how college students behave" kind, grrrr.

I think this thread itself is kind of dangerous though. As someone who has lived with genuinely uptight people in the past (I got eaten out of it for leaving a dirty spoon in the sink once), some undeserving people are going to get seriously eaten out of it.

I mean I often overhear conversations in college with one person literally screaming at another about how much of a complete ****** their housemate is and listing everything wrong with that housemate (usually mostly inoccuous stuff that everyone one of us suffers from but which only shows when living full-time under close quarters with someone). This with so much anger in the voice, that I want to run out of the lab but don't want to get caught in the glare. Then, to the friend: "so, do you want to live with me next year? :)", "uhm, no I'm fine where I am thanks" :p

yea I had 3 like that well the 1st one was a complete psycho bitch even threw my notes in the bin before my exam and then robbed stuff when she moved out and she was a complete pain in the ass to live with a right moody cow.
the 2nd 2 were guys , smelly bast*rds , so flippin messy and smelly , it was just gross!

no its not, she deserves it. She's had to many chances. I know i'd be kicking someones head in if i was being kept awake as much as that

this thread reminds me of my time in Australia when we decided to work in Melbourne for a few months. We moved into a grotty but cheap old house in Moonee Ponds and we had an array or colourful characters to keep us amused.

Rob: 42 year old divorced, ex-prison warden. used to sit watching tv shows like 24 or CSI with a running commentary of "yea, yea, thats right." or "no thats not right at all". he was the most annoying man i've ever come across.

Per: Danish backpacker that worked late shifts and got incredibly píssed off when he arrived home at 3 am just as we were going to bed. then he'd take out his guitar and give a very loud and stirring rendition of Brick in the Wall. same thing every night. he also seemed to be allergic to the sink and left his dishes all over the sitting room.

Ben: this guy was ok but unfortunately he had a psychotic girlfriend that used to arrive at the house at 4am blind drunk and screaming abuse. Lovely!

but the prize jewel had to be.....

Belinda: possibly the most retarded non-retard i've ever come across. She was about 6ft, weighed about 20 stone and had facial hair to rival the ZZ Top boys. She came out with few classic lines such as :
"i dont read no books....thats disgusting"
"i dont think hes english cos hes black"
"steph, in Ireland do you speak Irish or Australian?"
but the best one was a conversation she had with Rob one day.
Belinda: There was a man watching the house today.
Rob: What did he look like? Was he caucasian?
    Belinda: Nah, Australian.

    I shít you not folks!

The night before myself and my sister and our two mates (one of which used to also live in the ouse) were heading off on our roadtrip, it all kicked off and there was a massive row with the psychos. basically i got hammered and decided to tell them what i thought of them. When we were leaving Belinda had locked herself in her room with my CD collection and refused to give them back unless we gave her money.....they were all copied CDs so i wasnt arsed. In revenge we decided to take EVERYTHING out of the fridge and the presses and put in a black bag which we then dumped a few miles down the road. Then we left a note on the fridge for Belinda which said something along the lines of "Most men dont like girls with more facial hair than themselves....sort it out ya freak"
The text messages we got when they realised were hilarious! :D

LOL Thats very funny. This arsehole not even a week into the college year would just stay up till 2 am playing his playstation and yelping in delight at scoring a goal in FIFA, not giving a **** about anyone in bed. No attempts were made to stay quiet.

Stopped all that now, as I fought fire with fire, basically doing what he was doing to others except twice as bad. I took to slagging the **** out of him when ever I got the chance about everything and anything. Everyone does to him now tbh. He could be really condescensing to other people that wasnt in our group.

It may be, but how much do you want to pass the year? You'll fail unless she gets evicted. Complain to the college board, and get the warden to back you up.

    =-=

Also, I was a bit like the annoying person, in one way. I'm half deaf, so I need an ultra-loud alarm clock (recently got a vibrating one, so its kinda sorted), which went off @ 8am every morning. Sometimes it woke me up, sometimes it didn't, and if it didn't, it'd keep going till it did. And this was so loud, it'd wake up everybody else @ 8am as well.

But I never had the TV, radio, etc loud after 11pm, as people needed to sleep.

I think asshole flatmates are part of being aged between 18 and 30 to be honest. Sometimes you get lucky but in every group of people you're going to have friction and those you get on better or worse with. I'm on my 3rd house in 2 years and finally seem to have a fairly easy going bunch. Sure, some of the things they do piss me off and I'm sure some of the stuff I do pisses them off but we all just get over it and try to be as considerate as possible to the others as possible.

when i was in college, me and my friend kept a diary, it was really funny cos we wrote in it when we were drunk.
we lived in a house with 6 other girls, so things things were fairly bitchy on a good day, but one nite we came back from a nite out and went to the diary's usual place (under my pillow) and shock horror...it was gone!!!
we found it on the bottom of 2 of the others girls wardrobe the next day, that nite it all kicked off, i was in the nite club and one of the girls(thiefs) came up to me and slapped me across the face, i threw my pint over her and (we were standing at the top of steps) i pushed her down the steps and went down after her and kinda laid into her, these guys had to pull me off her, the last thing i remember was screaming

"you think what we wrote in page 24 was bad!!, u should have read page 40!!!!"

that was my horrible house mate story......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭penguinbloke

Well had a couple that I didn't really get on with but this year I just can't stand the guy for two reasons

Firstly he's just a good old fashioned pain in the hole,

Secondly he was dealing drugs from the house to his "friends" and managed to get the house raided by the DS and is from all accounts still under investigation as I have heard from several people.

The only reason he wasn't arrested that day was because it was his birthday the night before and he left everything in a friends house.

Oh yeah my other house mates gf was burning essential oils in the living room and he actually said.

"No if you burn that the landlord will think your smoking dope. Burn incense instead"

I just really don't like the guy...

during my second year in college the tension between four of us sharing a house got released spectacularly one night in a messy nightclub brawl that was sparked by one of them jumping across a table full of drinks to go for me. there was a delicate atmosphere for a while after that.

    ahh good times, good times.

Haha I actually tried that last week, and it worked. I came back and the irritating friends were gone and the kitchen was spotless! Not that practical for every day though, don't wanna inflict it on the other flatmates.

So here's an update, I came home today and the bitch was in the kitchen, didn't apologise for keeping me awake until 4.30 am and completely ignored me. That was the last straw, the matter went to the main warden, he already had reports of her noise pollution and the fact that she had been reported by another 2 flatmates. I said she was making my life hell, I had got about 4 hours sleep every day this week because of her. Yesterday I was so tired I nearly fainted (actual physical exhaustion from night after night of not sleeping) and today it took me 5 hours to read a short play cos I was so tired I couldn't concentrate. So I told him this and she was spoken to. I don't know what was said, but I hope to hell she got the message.

An american friend came to live here and we got an apartment together. Things were going ok until about a week after we moved in.

He used all the pots, pans, plates etc and just left them in the sink, myself and the girl I shared a room with had to wash up his crap in order for us to eat or cook.

All the doors in the apartment were fire doors and would automatically slam shut but myself and the othe girl would make sure we'd close the doors when leaving a room so they wouldn't slam shut. The american would just let them slam shut....not good when its 4am in the morning and you have to be up early for work. He did my head in.....he was so lazy!!

I'm afraid I am probably one of those 'uptight people' the rest of you slobs hate so much! Yes, unwashed plates and bowls annoy me. Smoking indoors is not acceptable. I dislike mess and dirt and would be unable to live 'like a student' (human-pig hybrid). Plus I do need 8 hours sleep if I am working in the morning. On the plus side, I choose my house mates very carefully and explain the situation (how I am, how I live) when viewing a place so everyone's on the same page. Also, being 28 and sharing with similarly aged people, the slobs are no longer a problem...I can only assume the natural selection has worked its magic and the pigs drowned in their own filth during their mid-20s...:)

Are you my flatmate padser? You sound just like her. "So what if I keep you up all night? You can have a nap the next day."
Ear plugs are uncomfortable and dangerous (not hearing fire alarm, not to mention alarm clock) and I shouldn't have to resort to using them cos some spoiled little bitch is incapable of being considerate.
Reading some of the other posts here makes me realise how NOT uptight I am. I put up with piles of dishes in the sink, washing forks before I can use them and doors slamming. That stuff is annoying but it doesn't start to ruin your life the way getting no sleep does :D

I lived with a few tickets in my time.

Dutch guy - Possibly the most ignorant sh*t I have ever encountered. He would come home very night, and turn his bass heavy music on full blast, waking everyone. When challenged on this his respeonse - "I been in this house 2 years and no-one has complained". He smoked and dropped ash everywhere, cup, mugs plates. He never flushed the toilet, he went on the floor, neevr wiped it up. A right bolloc. We had a huge party after he moved out.

West Limerick Girl - We named her Dev soon after she moved in, due to the pointy face, and thin glasses. She spoke like a man, and had the manners of a boorish Yaley(!). She lied so much it was sickening, she loved her guilt trips, about how tough her childhood was, a mother who doesnt love her etc. She insulted all round her, and made so much noise in her room. When we had the misfortune to hear her have sex made it all the worse. The day before I moved out, and pointed everything out, about how an unpleasent experince co-habiting with her had been. I went way ott, not proud of that.

Never really had much bother, but I did share with a guy once who would take other peoples food out of the freezer so as to put his own in.

Now I'm not one for over-reactiing but stabbing him in the eye repeated with a shovel would be a fair punishment for such actions!

seemed to think being in college gave her a right to do whatever she wanted, and to hell with everyone else

I'm just after spending a year living in student residences (for the first and last time). This attitude of "we're in college, we can do what we like" is widespread amongst the freshers (17/18yo) who are finally away from their parents for the first time ever, but even more worrying is the utter lack of common decency and consideration from the older people who should know better.

I'm doing an MA, and I requested to live with older people, i.e NOT first years. So I got four roommates that are all in their 20s, the youngest is 22, oldest is 28. First semester, the apartment couldn't have been quieter, never any noise after 11pm etc. The retards outside playing football and screaming their heads off at 4am were still around, but at least it was quiet INSIDE. This all changed in semester two, when the rudest, most ignorant French girl ever moved in. She's in the room next to me, and as far as I can tell, her boyfriend (who isn't in the University) has been living with her all semester in her room. The two of them POUND around the place like elephants at any time of the day or night, and the worst thing is, the knock-on effect has made ALL my roommates noiser. A friend of mine who lives in the apartment below mine can hear all the noise as well. Another person commented on fire doors -- it just boggles my mind that people can pull doors all the way back on their hinges and just let them slam shut at ANY TIME of the day or night.

I took to playing White Noise CDs to drown out the noise from within and without my room -- and *I* would feel concerned that I don't play the CDs too loud incase *I* kept other people awake.

I'm moving out tomorrow thank God, and will never have to live in student accommodation again. I don't know how people manage to survive in student res. for three or four years! Ultimately, like others have said, having bad roommates is just something that is going to happen sooner or later, but damn, being kept awake at night for night after night -- it's not a good thing! Some people can be such ignorant ****s it's just unreal

Also, being 28 and sharing with similarly aged people, the slobs are no longer a problem...I can only assume the natural selection has worked its magic and the pigs drowned in their own filth during their mid-20s...

Aha, yes I'm one of those types of people too..(the tidy kind). Only problem is, I'm moving into college accommodation next year - should be interesting to say the least!
