Getting a Snare Drum Repaired

A nut/bolt that is needed for tightening the snares on my snare drum has broken/fallen off. Nothing serious, but it definetly needs fixing. Anyone know where in Dublin I can get this repaired?

By Nut, do you mean the Lug?
Is it the scew itself, or the piece it screws into?

I'm not too familiar with the names of each different "nut" or "bolt", nor do I know if these are the correct terms (I actually don't know what came off the drum).

Y'know the little spring that you pull up to make the snares tighten? The "nut" that ajoins that to the the actual kit has disappeared. That's the best I can describe it.

Different snares have different mechanisms. Can you post a pic?

D'you mean the screw you turn to pull the spring tighter, or has the whole piece come off the side of the snare?

I reckon your talking about the grab on the strainer, which retains the plastic/string that hold the strainer across the snare....
Is the snare metal or wood? If wood, id get a chippy or a wood workers store to redrill the hole, place in a slightly bigger screw and re-tighten the grab.

If the snare is metal, id be less inclined to do anything. Sounds to me as if the compnent itself suffered fatigue:-Either the snare is really old, or really cheap and not worth repairing. If its the former, id take the snare into music maker and have a chat with the lads downstairs. The are all knowledgeable blokes and would lend a sympathetic ear if nothing else!

Since I don't have access to a digital camera at the moment I can't be taking any pictures. I'm going through busy times right now so I won't be able to fix the problem until late this week (swopped from the usual snare in the process ;)).

I have been planning to head into Music Maker and seeing what they say. It's a nice Pearl snare drum that's just a little battered. The problem is actually miniscule (if I could explain what the hell is going on you'd see) but I'll update on what the actual issue is once I get word.

Went into Music Maker today, basically the "strainer" had hit the dust so I just got a new one, gave it some simple maintenence and now the drum is (thank Christ) back to normal. I'm just glad the whole problem wasn't as bad as I thought ;). Thanks lads.

Strainer? You sissy! I remember my first snare drum was so crap that I had to sellotape the ends of the stare to the head. Times were hard back then...we were poor, but we were happy!
