I'm guessing you got that info from here

Don't miss the part where it says

A tooth extraction ranged in price from £40-£60 in Dublin, to £35-£50 in the rest of the Republic and only £18-£38 in the North. Prices for a single porcelain crown offered the biggest savings in Northern Ireland (£158-£290) compared with the cost in Dublin (£425-£600) and the rest of the country (£400-£500).

If you have to get it done and can easily travel to N.Ireland then get yourself up there

That article is dated 2001 but dental care is still a lot cheaper in the North

Had one fitted late last year in Limerick, cost €800. I'm guessing it might be a bit dearer in dublin. I think the big cost involved is the actual crown itself which is very expensive to make and I think consistutes over half the cost of the procedure.

You can claim back tax on it with a Med 2 form. Have a look on www.revenue.ie for details. I'm not sure of the exact amount but you should be able to get back roughly half the cost after the first €150 of dental treatment i.e. €275 of it if it we're €800

I got a crown about a year ago and it was 800 euro.
It does depend on where you go.
Sometimes you can get it done for free (if lucky) in dental hospital if they have final year student that need to do crown before they graduate as dentist.
Alhough for that you'd need to know someone in there and need student that needs to do crown as part of their practical
