    (Posting this for a friend)
Im thinking of buying a 9 year old Carisma, with 55,000 miles on the clock. Any advice or opinions on this car appreciated! Thanks

Car named after the one thing it lacks.....but being a Mitsubishi, it's gonna be reliable & cheap enough to run. 55k miles on a 9yr old car is low enough mileage too.

A collegue working with me has a 96 Carisma too and uses it to drive up and down to Waterford every weekend. It never left him down and he says it is quite comfortable on long jouneys.

They were designed as a roomier alternative to the then Lancer saloon but in reality they were pretty much the same size. They were built in Holland along side the old Volvo S40/V40. Originally available in 1.6, 1.8 petrol and 1.9 TD (Renault engine). A 1.3 was available from 2001 onwards and the car ended production towards the end of last year. The new Lancer has replaced the Carisma now.

Is it 1.6 or 1.8? The 1.8 uses Mitsubishi's GDI technology which is supposed to give good economy. You can check out the reviews at http://www.honestjohn.co.uk.

The GLX model is the one to get as it has all round electric windows, electric mirrors and remote central locking.

Drove one for a while, as mentioned above it lacks carisma. The 98 sports model that I drove had no CD player, and was pretty basic inside. That said, it had excellent handling, was quite lively (1.6 GDI model), and the engine was outstanding in its reliability.
