His web site offers some amazing performance videos (many with him playing blindfolded)

Thats no big deal, any accomplished keyboardist should be able to do that.

Depending on the song it should be quite simple to play blindfolded.

It will take a few years to get anywhere. Stick with it though, as it pays off.
It's one of the things im glad my parents made me do.

While we are talking piano, what type of piano do you play? What piece(s) are you working on?

"Fur Elise", "Moonlight sonata" and "the heart asks pleasure first".

The last one is my favourite piece of modern music.

[RANT]Better than that fucckin 4.33 by whats his head.[/RANT]

if you like "the heart asks pleasure first", you HAVE to check out "Big my Secret". Its from the same movie. If you are using the Piano book, its the first piece. Its wayyyyy nicer, and less played.

Yes, I know that one, and it is lovely. But the other one has a place in my.......heart.:)

Did you see Michael Nyman at the NCH last month?

Theres no "I wish I could" option.

I'd love to:( is it too late? I'm 20!

I just learned 'Colourblind' by counting crows. Beautiful riff, and so simple- as is New Born by Muse. I have very small hands/fingers though which makes piano playing that bit harder.

apparently playing the piano helps with understanding maths, something to do with reading the notes. i dunno, I'm crap at maths but then I hardly read notes, I play better by ear and memory. I only ever did one exam as I preferred learning songs I liked than spending hours learning chords, scales etc. Once you master the piano, any other instrument is easy to learn.

What a great song!! I've played bits of it before on piano, easy enough! Wish I could create my own music on the piano:( is it too late so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,287 ✭✭✭NotMe

If you want to do it then go for it. I only started playing guitar when I was 20. Of course starting earlier would be better but it's never too late.

Colourblind is such a gorgeous song to play on the piano. I could sit there all day playing it. Also 'Moonslight Sonata' is a lovely one too.

It's never too late to learn an instrument! But be prepared to play lots of "Go-ing-up-stairs, com-ing-back-down" and nursery rhymes, and books with kittens and puppies..
