    Hi all,

Was anyone else listening to newstalk last night? Each time they spoke of Jim McDaid they mentioned that he had apologised but he might still face charges and prosecution. Something along the lines of "...and even though he has publically apologise he may still face prosecution..."

It seemed like they were trying to say that as he had apologised he should be let off. Is there some law I am not aware of where a public figure is supposed to get off with breaking the law if they apologise?

I have a lot of time for Newstalk but I did not like the way this story was presented. Did anyone else hear it?

    MrP

Mr McDaid should resign, and should be charged with dangerous driving while being under the influence. He went round a roundabout the wrong way, and attempted to drive the wrong way up a dual carriage way. This is an arrestable offence. If he does not resign, then Bertie Ahern should remove him from his party with immediate effect.

Yep, he should be treated like the rest of us, but in reality dont be surprised if this happens..

No comment from any politician (Standing rule in Dail Eireann seems to be if this happens to anyone, play dumb as you could be next).

Gardai have a think about it.
And another think about it around Christmas time.

    File goes to DPP.

    Not enough Evidence..

    Jim Who?

Next scandal, proceed to step 1.

The way I look at this, if he were in a foreign country and was arrested he would have felt the cold steel of handcuffs by now.

An apology is no good in my opinion, had he killed someone, an apology would not bring that person back.

I think if stations are going to have commentators on about McDaids drink driving then they should be screaming for his head on a plate. This would be the only way that we can make drink driving such an anti-social thing to do in this country. Too many people are doing it because they think "ah sure im only up the road" and too many people are losing their lives because of it.
