Arghhh... For some unknown reason, my laptops touchpad just stopped responding this morning. It was working fine this morning, then I turned the laptop off and closed the lid down. When I turned it on again the touchpad wouldn't respond and I'm stuck using the keyboard to do everything. I bought the laptop in January and I swapped it because I thought there was a problem with it, but it was actually with a game I was trying to run. Anyway, when i swapped it, I think I must have forgotten the receipt when I got the new one. So now I have no receipt! There is a 3 year warranty on the laptop but Gericom ask for the receipt as far as I know.

Any suggestions as to what to do or what position I stand in without the receipt?

    Thanks!

What make of Laptop is it?
The program that runs the touchpad has probably shut down or maybe theres a wire loose

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply,
It's a Gericom laptop. I was able to navigate to the programme that runs the touchpad in my computer. It seems ok? But how would it have shut down? Where would the wire be loose? Inside the laptop? I don't suppose shaking it would help the other components?
    :D

Also, maybe it would be better if I just got it replace because I've had some weird problems with it just shutting off at random moments too.

It's just the hassle of having to give it back and being without a laptop for a few days/weeks

P.S. Did Gericom ask you for the receipt for warranty issues, I've lost mine as well.

I don't know why it would be BIOS issues as it was working this morning, I turned it off, then on about an hour later and it wouldn't work.

I arranged to have my laptop collected when there was an issue with the game and they asked to give a copy of the receipt (Which I had) then I went back to ALDI and changed it there instead, and I couldn't find the receipt once I had the new one set up!

Updating the BIOS will void the warranty so your best bet is to just bring it back!

Never hurts to update. try not to go messing with the connection to the touchpad. Pain in the ass.Check here

Actually I remember reading somewhere that someone needed to disconnect his battery and then reattach it, and the touchpad started working again. Obviously there is no logical reason why this would fix the problem, (like my previous post).

So if you have any better ideas go for it, otherwise try my suggestion.

Where does it say that on the warranty? Never looked.always presumed if you update something from the part manufacturer....etc..... then it was ok.

I think Garth_V might be refering to MSI bios firmware. (The actual laptop manufacturer). But if gericom put up bios updates on their public website, I reckon that couldn't interfere with your warranty. (Although it is a somewhat dangerous procedure).

Thank you very much! That worked and my touchpad is back on track:) I still have the problem of the odd turning off on the laptop, but that doesn't really effect me much. Would be nice just to have a flawless laptop though.
