"Darko" Director Gets a Cast to Tell His "Southland Tales"

Posted by Senh Duong on Friday, Apr. 22, 2005, 10:51 AM

Scott Weinberg writes: "Thanks to ComingSoon.net for sharing with us an enticing new press release from the folks at Cherry Road Films. "Donnie Darko" fans can rejoice because writer/director Richard Kelly is ready to get rolling with his "Southland Tales."

Described as "an ensemble piece set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster," the film will star Seann William Scott, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Kelly and his crew are gearing up to start production on August 1st, and the young filmmaker seems pretty excited about his new project: "The film is going to be a strange hybrid of the sensibilities of Andy Warhol and Philip K. Dick.""

Oh no why that cast? WHY?????

arghh i need someone to explaine why

if he could make Patrick Swayze work in a film, i think he should be able to make this cast work

And to be fair, The Rock and Seann William Scott made a pretty good comedy team in Welcome to the Jungle.

    Heard about this ages ago!..

Think it could be interesting... if you read more of the cast list online, it's a very Kevin Smith influenced cast.

Seann William Scott (in J&SB Strike Back)
    Janeane Garofalo (in Dogma)
Ali Larter (in J&SB Strike Back)
Jason Lee (reguarly in Smith films)
    Kevin Smith (the man himself!)

Gotta agree with madrab. what a ridiculous cast! i love kevin smith films, but his cast arent the funky, less overtly funny actors that would suit kelly more
