Irish 'complacent' about credit rating

    From breakingnews.ie:

A large number of Irish people are complacent about their credit rating according to the financial services firm GE Money.

The company said one-third of respondents to a survey it carried out in Ireland said they did not know or did not care if they had a poor rating.

Spokesman Eoin Lynam said: "It's obviously something to be very concerned about because, if somebody has a poor credit record, it may hamper their ability to get a personal loan, a car loan, a mortgage or any kind of finance for the lifestyle that they want to lead."

Does anyone know how to check if you have a bad credit rating or not and if you do what can you do about it? What factors add up to give you a bad credit rating

See here and here. Identity theft is also a major factor. (If it can happen to dahamsta, it can happen to you.) I'd recommend people check their credit record at least once a year and note down and query any unusual activity. Also watch your bank and credit cards statements like a hawk. If in doubt, query.
