Was recently reading a good article on kyudo. It highlighted something i thought we should all remember when bringing in new recruits next september(even if it IS a dig at us target archers!)

"Modern archery is said to be a kind of sport-by hitting the target, people can win or lose. But it is also a way of disciplining the mind and body. Winner's shouldn't boast, and the people who lost shouldn't be humiliated, if possible. As long as archery is sought as a way, you have to be considerate toward others. Progress should be made together, with warmness of heart, with consideration." -Nobuyuki Kamogawa, tenth degree kyudo hanshi.

Now THAT's deep. I think it'll need to be translated for some of the lads we have here....
The way i see it, all sports have winners and losers. Just because you win doesnt give you the right to belittle others, and if you do lose, it's an incentive to try harder, and at least you tried, where so many others wouldnt have.

Oneof the lads spotted that a while ago too. we're gonna use that for a type of club principle(can't think of the proper word). seen it in this book all about martial arts, in the first section. Same book perhaps? anyways, think its a really good statement, which should b followed .

Maybe he was referring to 'discipling the body and mind' rather than ways of killing new club members! Though if uve any amusing ideas, please share! The most important thing we've discovered in the club is that the more fun you have at training and the more you make people feel welcome and make sure they enjoy it, the better the atmosphere, therefore it has to be good for the club as a whole. We have an archer who started with a local club but left because he felt it was too serious etc and couldn't relax(not good for shooting!!) and found a more relaxed approach better. I don't know what ye think, but i seems to work for us. :p

Now that's the DIT philosophy!!! acht the sh1tehawk as much as possible and occasionally shoot. It's great fun, and if you're into competitive stuff, just look at our results from the last two years. Must be doin somethin right (although for the life of me i cant seem to figure out what...)

PS Bolger, be nice to Ewan.

Glad to see i got a discussion started! Pity names were called! The whole idea is that each club should progress as a group-if it was all about winning, there'd be about four archers at each intervarsity

Names, who was called names???? it's all in jest, believe me.
