Are these available yet? If so where can you purchase them? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Not out yet, and even then they will NEVER get anywhere close to 300MB's transfer rate, SATA is mostly hype...mechanical limitations will never allow current drives to come close the the bandwidth that SATA is speced for, be it SATA I or II.

But you should see SATA II compliant drives in the Summer, what i am waiting for is a Raptor II with native SATA II + 15,000 RPM + 16MB buffer - RAID four drives and you'll have some serious transfer rates.

Is there a Raptor 2? Great, serious speeds!

I'm *hoping* for a Raptor II. But nothing has been said by WD. I'd like to see a drive with said specs.

I got 2x250 ide's already, but want SATA for my new board. Seeing as it supports SATA2(3Gbps) i think i'll be waiting for the SATA2.
What do you mean Richard by them not being able to transfer at there said speed, surly if the mobo supports these speeds then its possible.

Mobo might support SATA II, the hard drives maybe SATA II compliant...that dosen't mean the drives themselves will transfer data at 300MB's...in fact they won't.

Mechanical limitations won't allow for it with current technology, most drives only rotate at 7,200 RPM, Raptors have 10,000 RPM and are the fastest SATA drives on the market.

Better still is 2 or 4 Raptors in RAID 0. No matter what they won't come close to SATA I or I peak bandwidth, hopefully we'll get 15,000 RPM drives with large caches like 16 or 32MB that will improve things alot.
